Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Walker.
Taryn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started playing around with makeup in my sophomore year in college at UNT. I met some great friends, who wore makeup often, and some of our time spent together consisted of visits to MAC cosmetics. I instantly fell in love with the vibrant & shimmering hues of eyeshadow. From there I started to spend a lot of my time at MAC asking the MUA’s for tips and advice. Before I knew it, I was putting makeup on others. I became obsessed with making women feel pretty. Most of my initial practice was on myself. I quickly started watching YouTube tutorials from famous makeup artist, & started to mimic styles. I eventually created my craft and came up with my style of what worked for me. I am a freelance makeup artist.
I like saying I specialize in natural/soft glam. I have worked with numerous brides, local jewelry designers, bridal parties, photoshoots for private glam sessions and just about any other reason anyone would want their face made up. FacedbyTaryn is on Instagram and Facebook. I promote healthy skin and makeup as they work jointly for the best outcome. FacedbyTaryn has been up for about three to four months on social media. My pastor talked to me about my gift and encouraged me to create a larger platform for myself. I gain a lot of my inspo from Makeup Shayla & Painted by Spencer. (Celeb Artist).
I am striving to increase my platform so that my gift is my mode of income. Glamming is not my primary job. I work in revenue integrity for a well known healthcare revenue cycle corporation.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I’ve always known that I was given a gift and eye to create. However, there were times I was so over exhausted with my primary career, that I didn’t want to always deal with building my brand for makeup artistry. I also went through people booking appointments and not being reliable and canceling.
Please tell us about your business.
I’m proud that I took a risk and put my artistry out there for the world to judge. My clients would prob say I’m known for slaying eyebrows! I specialize in natural and soft glam. My brand’s name was inspired by people saying “face beat”. I personally never endured the term, so faced seemed more logical. I will say my style sets me apart. I start with skincare. I introduce skincare to my clients before makeup application. I also tell my clients what I’m putting on their face. So they know why and what its purpose is. Also my personality.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?Good friend Lauren introduced me to the realm of makeup. Ashley Richardson who is a photographer thought of me on many occasions to glam her clients before their photoshoots. Lamekia who is my best friend, allowed me to practice with her a lot. My pastor for encouraging me to put what I Love as a priority.
