Today we’d like to introduce you to Tashina Calhoun.
Tashina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
One Belief Organization is where we are today due to a mission God placed upon my heart to help our youth today. It literally started with God waking me up out of my sleep with a vision and a bunch of what seemed to be scattered thoughts at the moment. I truly was not sure what to do with it at the time but it was after an indecent at my daughter’s school. The campus has gone on intruder lockdown as it was said that another child had a weapon on campus. Now, my daughter is only in the first grade. It was the most terrifying frightening feeling a parent can experience. I immediately dropped everything right where I was at and emotionally fled to her school. I had so many thoughts in my head and my heart was heavy. Thankfully, upon arrival, the police had already gotten to school and had taken the student and began their investigation. That weekend, I was pretty much in a daze and deep thought about all of the chaos in today’s world. It weighed on my heart to contribute to the community and impact our youth in a positive way. One belief organization is all about raising global awareness to positive thought patterns;mental health addressing depression,suicide awareness along with positive ways to engage and interact with others while embracing differences of others and making good decisions. We are not a political organization and are not about guns or gun rights; we about about life, and living your best possible healthy life at that! With the vision and mission that was at task, I first took the necessary measures to protect it and then began hurriedly building and growing around that!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If everything was all smooth roads in life there would not be any challenges, so I cannot say that has super smooth but it hasn’t been rough either. You see when you are contributing and giving it is very rewarding. The few struggles have only been with funding, we have some many awesome things we want to do right here in this very community and then expand to other locations and we truly have the vision to execute and platform to do so. I have a team of awesome people some volunteers; some educators all devoted to this very organization and that in itself is a tear jerking feeling alone. So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the One Belief Organization story. Tell us more about the business.
One belief specializes in empowering to build healthy lasting positive relationships with their peers; this is positive relationship with your friends, your significant other, with authoritative figures and most importantly yourself. Kids need to understand and love themselves. I am the executive director of the organization; I do everything (lol). However, my task range from getting word out to others about us, organizing events for our organization, administrative duties all the way to speaking. Ultimately I have an array of areas I specialize in making our organization successful. We are known for reaching our youth and making changes and differences in our youth! I am most proud of the relationships that we form with the youth that is meaningful and leaves a long lasting impression that will remain with them forever. What sets us apart from others is that our organization connects with everyone’s one belief, and this is across the board, regardless of ethnicity, religious or political beliefs we, in the end, have that one belief and that is what sets us apart; yet brings everyone together!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe our steps are ordered by God it does not have to do with luck. Recently, I have simply been blown away by the people placed along my path recently. I didn’t understand some of the initial meetings because I meet people all the time in my line of business and then as things unfolded and came together more and more it is like this ‘ah ha’ moments are revealed and I’m like “oh, that is what this person was for”. So, I am just grateful for all of life’s experiences and people with whom I have crossed paths with and connected with its all for a reason and purpose and I’m grateful because it has proven to be instrumental in my personal life and business as well.
