Meet Taylor Woodson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Woodson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Certainly! I started dancing early as the age of three. As years flew by, I was involved in school dance teams, church plays, praise dance ministry and school productions, which led to my interest in the entertainment industry. By the time I was a junior in High School, it was solidified that I wanted to become an entertainer professionally. I began posting videos of song covers on YouTube, sending my Myspace pictures and letters of interest to casting directors of my favorite shows, and researching the proper tools needed to become successful.

By senior year (shout-out to a class of 2010!), I decided to put a pause on my endeavors to focus on college and graduation. When I entered Prairie View A&M University, my dreams of entertainment took a shift. It was a trip to New York that gave me the decision to become a Communications Major after sitting through a live taping of MTV’s ‘The Seven’. Fun fact! Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) was a guest on the show! I was also involved in organizations including the Classic Dance Ensemble and National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ), where I served as chapter president. After graduation, I’ve definitely had hi’s and lows. But nonetheless, I kept pushing. Since then, I’ve been signed to an amazing management company, take classes with renowned teachers and directors, and able to do what I love.

And if you’re wondering about my job situation, I recently became a full-time Middle School Dance Teacher in Dallas to the most amazing kids! As I further my walk in this industry, I hope to break boundaries and make an impact. I love genres like fantasy, sci-fi, and action and would love to join or create projects in those categories. In the words of one of my favorite people, Walt Disney, “We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down to new paths.” and that’s what I am intending to do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
After graduating in 2015, I had big dreams on a low budget. As they say, “the struggle is real’, and it definitely was. Between 2015 and 2018, I was at my lowest mentally. I had just been fired from my first real job, struggled to find work to help support my lifestyle and had crippling self-esteem. I realized that I had been away from the things that made me the happiest. At that moment, I signed up for my first dance class in five years. 2018 was a turn around year for me. I had lost over 40 pounds, auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and even took a shot at American Idol! That was also the year I, unfortunately, tore my ACL and was on rest for six months. To help fuel my creative energy, I was cast in a play that aided in refocusing my goals.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Major credit goes to God! But I also owe a big portion to my family and friends. My family is a pure definition of loyalty and will support no matter how big, small, or far it is. They have seen me through mall performances, football games, restaurant performances, and stage play. They also give me the encouragement to keep fighting for my dreams. I also like to credit my friends. They are literally my rock. My girlfriends who are always there to be a beacon of light on even the darkest days. My best friend, Ronald, has definitely helped me at my lowest and continues to be supportive as well. I also credit my acting coaches, Fort Worth Actor’s Studio and Rowland Acting Studios, for providing safe spaces to truly be myself and push me to my full potential!
