Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Nguyen.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Theresa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m just a girl from Minnesota raised by immigrant parents.
My parents escaped Vietnam and were among the lucky who were able to board one of the last helicopters leaving Vietnam during the Fall of Saigon. I was the first child born in the US and the second-generation Vietnamese American.
TODAY I AM LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM.
But it wasn’t always this way.
To pursue a successful career, I was working as a nurse, with sometimes mandatory overtime and putting in 60 hour work weeks … sacrificing time away from my family, the most important people in my life.
One night, I came home to some baby clothes boxed up for donation. I pulled out of the box a blue velvet onesie, brought it up to my nose and took a deep, full breath in. A flash of images rushed in – like a movie reel on fast forward and I was in tears thinking about all those “first” moments I missed … like their first time walking, their first words, their first school musicals. My husband Eddie and I were just going through the motions and making our marriage survive – barely.
If this was “having it all”, I wanted no part of it. I couldn’t believe all the sacrifices I’d made up to this point, all the time and work I had put in, had led me to this unhappy place — only to have nice things and not happiness, JOY, fulfillment. This was not the life I envisioned for myself for the next 30 years.
MY PARENTS DID NOT RISK THEIR LIVES FOR ME NOT TO LOVE MINE.
I prayed for an answer, so desperate for an opportunity, it unexpectedly came in the form of an online home based business.
I had those crazy fears of failing, judgement, criticism and yes, I was scared … terrified. What if I couldn’t do it? What if I wasn’t good enough? What if, what if, WHAT IF!? I was not a business person – I knew how to hang IV antibiotics, change wound dressings, suction tracheostomies, take care of patients … I had no business being an entrepreneur. At least that is what I thought at the time.
BUT THAT QUIET VOICE INSIDE WHISPERED “JUST GO FOR IT” … and in 2 years, I was able to retire my husband, Eddie, and our lives are drastically different.
There are no more moments where I lay in bed with tears streaming down my eyes, wishing for a solution to fix everything. There are no more moments where Eddie and I are just bodies co-existing in a household. There are no more moments where my kids are asking with big alligator tears why I couldn’t come their school for the holiday party.
There are NO MORE moments when I have to “sacrifice” because the business I built, the risk I took was the blessing and the start to a future that has turned out even better than my dreams.
Most importantly, it led me to pursue my BIG DREAM which didn’t reveal itself to me until this past year. I knew that my success was not by luck. It was through perseverance, faith, trust and a mindset of necessity – that this was going to work and that I would overcome my fears, doubts, worries about the “what ifs” and create a life I desired for myself and my family.
This next new chapter called me to create another online business, More Time More You. I am a Mindset and Success Coach for introverted female entrepreneurs with home-based businesses. I help them break up with their fear, leverage their strengths and create their bold vision of success.
Today, I am the primary breadwinner and I love being the sugar mama. Eddie is the domestic god and chef extraordinaire. We travel 5 to 6 times a year and while life is not picture perfect, it’s the happiest we’ve ever been.
I truly believe that we don’t have to wait for any of the blessings we desire in our lives. There will never be perfect conditions for something to happen. You just have to take the risk and go for it – just like my parents did when they fled their homeland not knowing what the future looked like yet, today, they are living the most amazing life and have helped thousands of others throughout their lives.
Someone once told me that a good coach holds the most expansive and greatest possible vision of who you are until you can believe and become that version. That’s what I love about what I do. It is both transformative and life-changing.
It just takes the willingness to step into your dream journey and to surround yourself with people who can hold the vision of you at your greatest until you can believe and become it yourself.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely NOT! Struggles? I felt like the first 4 years of my online business was a struggle! I struggled with the technology, the sales part, the rejections, my self-esteem. I would say 75% of it was mindset related. My fear was so strong that it literally kept me from even moving forward in my business. I grew up as a pleaser – a people pleaser. I wanted everyone to like me and this story I told myself did not serve me as an adult. I felt unworthy of success. Who was I? Just a nurse with no business background. I’d never make it. I’d tell myself I wasn’t articulate enough. I wasn’t smart enough to create success. I even said I wasn’t attractive … I was too chubby or didn’t have the right clothes or my hair was too messy.
These fears which showed up as excuses and limiting beliefs made it so hard to share with others what I was doing, how I could help them and how they could benefit. Instead, I would make excuses like “I’m too tired”, “I’ll do it later”, “The day got away from me”, “It’s been so busy with the kids”, or just getting sucked up in the online social media binge … or Netflix. I did everything I could to avoid what I needed to do which was confront my fears and start replacing these false negative beliefs about myself with the TRUTH.
Which is: I am worthy. I am deserving of success. I am loved. I am powerful … because I AM. Because I breathe. Because I exist. I don’t have to be this illusion of someone I believed I had to become first in order to bring abundance into my life. I see what I mean? Tons of mindset shifts I had to make!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with More Time More You – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is called More Time More You. I am a Mindset and Success Coach for introverted female entrepreneurs with home-based businesses, helping them to break up with their fear so that they can turn their passion into profits. My specialty is helping the shy entrepreneur leverage her strengths so that she can step into her power, show up confidently and believe in herself and her mission, passionately and purposefully.
So often we let our fears dictate what we do, talk us out of taking chances, keep us from taking big leaps because we let our ego, our fear be the voice of truth instead of listening to our higher self, our future self and the woman we are becoming.
What I am most proud of as a company is that I have helped people create up to 7 figures through the mindset work that I do with them. It can be applied to any and all aspects of your life, not just in business. You see, sometimes you don’t even realize you have a block or self-sabotaging behaviors and a good business coach can help you move through this and focus on the present and future instead of the past.
What sets me apart from others is that I have created a business that brings in six-figure sales a year. I have struggled with the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. I started knowing zero about entrepreneurship and I have failed over and over again. Why is this special? Because I promise that I have been where you are at in your business, what you are struggling with, the stop and go pattern, the crazy self-limiting beliefs, repeating the old patterns that keep you safe instead of helping you to grow and create a business and life that you love. I have been there and I know how to help get you out of it. I am not a coach who just signs up clients and then let’s them figure it out themselves. I am passionate about recognizing your strengths, recognizing your BS and recognizing where you need support so that you can excel and accelerate your journey to the life you desire.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love best about our city is the people. I’m originally from Minnesota and people there are so kind. I was nervous moving to a “Big City” but soon realized that everyone here is so nice! I also love the diversity of cultures and cuisine here in the Dallas area. Let’s just say I gained a few pounds since moving here and I have made some lifelong friends. I continue to expand my friendships as new people move to the Dallas area all the time!
What I like the least are the summers. Instead of the bone chilling cold of winters in Minnesota, I traded it out for steaming HOT summers. My two boys are still getting used to the heat of the summer months but I choose to stay inside most of the day where I can listen to music, read a book, catch up with episodes of Game of Thrones … you know, just relaxing. That’s what summer is for anyway right?
