Thanks for sharing your story with us TJ. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started OpenKey in 2011, after successfully starting and running three other venture-backed technology companies. I saw a need in the hospitality market to change the check-in process at hotels and having started three other mobile technology companies I had been thinking about ways to make that experience better. We quickly gained traction and added three major publicly traded investors who helped us to grow the business. Fast forward to today and we have hotels all over the world using OpenKey to speed the check in process and we recently opened an office in China to address the growth of the middle class traveling boom there.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having done startups for the last 18 years, it’s never a smooth road; however this startup has been especially rewarding because I’m able to go to hotels and hear from guests and see their delight from an easier check-in and stay.
Please tell us about Openkey, Inc.
We provide mobile key technology for the hospitality space. We also guests to skip the front desk and get their room key on their phone. Our secret is our ability to easily work with any hotel lock in the world with our system. We can upgrade locks in minutes or work with existing locks that support mobile key.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Going to my Dad’s company and seeing the excitement that he had for his employees.
