Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Pruett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dani. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
It all began when my daughter was born. Well, actually, I loved taking pictures long before that; but when Piper came into this world…it was no longer a hobby. It was an obsession, a passion, a necessity. I became enamored with capturing every single detail of her life because I knew she would not stay little for long. Each month, my husband and I would set up these adorable scenes for her milestone pictures, and people started telling me how they wished they could do that, and how much they loved them. So I thought, “hey, why not offer these fun setups to other people?” So I started my lemonade stand mini sessions, and people came! I took their pictures! I LOVED it! From there I did my fall mini sessions, and then my Christmas mini sessions. Over the span of three months, I went from taking pictures for fun to photographing over 85 families! When I added it all up, I realized that this exciting new adventure was not just a whim or a lucky leap of faith. I knew that I was in the right place, doing exactly what I was meant to be doing. A year and some change later, I’m still seeing a lot of those same clients, as well as their loved ones! I have been blessed beyond measure to meet the most amazing people who have shared my name with the people they care about. I’ve gotten to see babies grow over the past year through their milestone sessions, and then take their first birthday pictures! I’ve taken family pictures that turned into maternity pictures, that then turned into newborn sessions! This has been the most beautiful journey, and I know that it’s just going to keep getting better!
Has it been a smooth road?
Believe it or not, it has been incredibly smooth. I think that my business happened so organically because it’s what I was meant to be doing, and finding my passion had been a long time coming. Not to say that it just fell into my lap, because that would be far from the truth. While things have worked out smoothly, that does not mean that I haven’t had to work really hard to keep that momentum going. I’ve had to learn how to better manage my time and find a good balance between work and family. Since I am my own boss, that means I dictate my own schedule, and for me, it’s hard not to get swept away in it all. Honestly, that’s still a work in progress, especially with fall being such a busy time for family pictures.
My advice to anyone who wants to start their own business is to never quit. Be relentless with your pursuit and give it all that you’ve got. Don’t be afraid of failure, just jump in and try your best.
We’d love to hear more about Dani Pruett Photography.
I am a lifestyle photographer specializing in families, children, seniors, and newborns! I also do events such as birthday parties and baptisms.
I would say I am most known for my cute seasonal mini sessions. I always try to keep them fun and affordable; I think that everyone should be able to have those special moments captured.
I’m really proud of the relationships that I’ve formed with my amazing clients. I love knowing that people choose to come back to me because they love my work and enjoy their time with me. I’ve had countless families tell me that they usually dread taking pictures, but they ended up having a blast with me! While I do pose my clients, I try to encourage play and silliness during my sessions. When someone is truly happy, you can see the joy in their eyes. A real laugh is infinitely better than just saying “cheese!!” I think that sets me apart from others because I truly enjoy making people smile and have a good time. Another thing that sets me apart from other photographers is that I never limit the amount of photos I give. If I get a good shot, that family is getting it in their gallery. I would never dream of keeping amazing pictures from clients just because it’s not within the limit of photos they paid for. I love photography because it gives me the power to freeze a moment in time, and I want to give families as many of those precious moments as I can.
