Meet Trailblazer Kayla Bramlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Bramlett.

Kayla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While working on my double major (speech pathology and audiology/child learning and development) at the University of Texas at Dallas, my (now) business partner and then best friend (Stetson Sullivan) and I were traveling whenever we could. We were both in college, so our “traveling” was mostly road tripping to neighboring states, finding little treasures of places along the way. As we went, we tried to document the places we were finding, making short montage videos, taking photos, and then posting to social media. Long story short, we began to get inquiries to film projects for brands, wedding films, etc. as well as to take photos of hotels and businesses. Nectar List Media was born. Flash forward a year and a half to the present, we now work with companies and brands based worldwide. Recently, we spent a week exploring Barbados while shooting for a resort on the island. Sitting in my neuroscience classes two years ago, I would have never been able to predict all of the experiences that life has brought me. Finding what I’m truly passionate about and what makes me truly happy was reward enough, but being able to make that my job brought more fulfillment than I could have imagined.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having my own business has brought me more joy than I could have fathomed. With that being said, it hasn’t always been easy. Just a few weeks ago, almost all of our camera equipment was stolen while working on a project. Equipment that we had saved for years for, not to mention so much content that we had shot for the client through the duration of the project, all gone within a matter of minutes. It was heartbreaking. Personally, after suffering a setback of that magnitude, it was hard to stay motivated to further grow our business, but both my partner and I persevered. We realized that even though we were struggling, we were going to be okay. That we still had so much in comparison to many who have so little. This inspired us to create “The Nectar List Fund” where a portion of every single job we take is collected, as well as donations from others, and once we hit a monetary goal, we can give every penny to someone who needs it.

My personal motto is: “You get what you give”. In short, this means that the way you live your life, the way you make decisions, treat people, it can even apply to setting personal goals; what you give of yourself into those things, you get back. I guess what I could say to other women who are beginning their journey is this. At some point or another, we all face adversity, whether it be big or small. When that moment comes, I want women to remember that you are so much stronger than circumstance and that no matter what you are a light and an inspiration to someone out there that wants you to succeed. So, be kind, smile whenever possible, find the silver lining, and put yourself fully into everything you do.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Nectar List Media – what should we know?
Nectar List Media is a full-service digital media marketing agency. We not only shoot for brands and businesses, but we help them form their own identity. We take a floor to ceiling approach by helping brands and businesses first identify their target market, then by tailoring their content for that specific market and making sure that market sees and engages with the content. We are most proud of our ability to speak directly to someone through media, and this is where we also feel that we are set apart. Pretty photos and cool graphics can go a long way, but if there is no personal connection to the viewer, then it’s not as impactful as it could potentially be. For example, when shooting for a hotel, we want to make sure that everyone knows the hotel itself is beautiful, but what was really after is for the viewer to picture themselves staying at the hotel and experiencing everything it has to offer.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
For me personally, with every person I meet, I feel like there is something to be learned. Everyone has a story, so if you’re willing to listen, I can almost guarantee that you’ll be able to take something from that story and carry it with you throughout your career. Be kind to absolutely everyone, you never know what life’s twists and turns will bring, and have people that care about your success and your dreams is the best way to provide yourself with as many opportunities as possible.
