Meet Trailblazer Kristie Higgs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristie Higgs.

Kristie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Almost a year ago, my marriage of seven years was coming to an end. During that time, I knew that I needed to start providing for myself and my small online personal training business wouldn’t be enough. Last November (2017), I was out walking with my dog and talking out loud to her. I remember saying, “Girl, we are going to have to hustle.” What I dreamed of doing was applying my degree in Exercise Science and years of nutritional and training education through a program that could be accessed anywhere in the world. I wanted to teach women how to regain self-confidence through an affordable program that wasn’t limited by location or age. This is where the idea of GirlHustle emerged. After six months of developing, GirlHustle Mind & Muscle launched in April 2018. To date, GirlHustle has reached women all over the US, to Italy, Ireland, and South Korea.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I really love my company name, especially the “hustle” part. Hustle to me is digging deep, enduring, working hard, and not quitting. There were many stages throughout the process of development that I would think “was this a good idea??.” But I always would tell myself during the long hours of writing and filming, “this is what being a girl hustler is all about.” Setting goals, not quitting. I knew that the project and message I was putting out there were for other women who would benefit it from it. That was my driving force throughout the tears, frustrations, and setbacks. My biggest advice to those starting out is to really anchor yourself to the “why” you’ve started your journey. This is no different than what I teach my girlHustlers. Your “why” needs to resonate deep within, it needs to be strong enough to withstand any storm. I always use the phrase, “learn to rest, not to quit.” When you get tired, take a break, rest up… and keep going.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Girl Hustle – what should we know?
I am an online trainer, fitness model, and writer. I specialize in teaching women how to have confidence in what they eat, how to exercise for their goals and learn the mindset they need to create sustainable habits.

What sets GirlHustle apart is that it’s the first affordable online trainer of its kind. Women come to me who have failed at every other diet and exercise program and finally find success with GH. It’s set up to educate, not hand hold. There are no gimmicks or special weight loss shakes. I desire for women to learn and be confident in what they are doing for the long run. It has been nicknamed the “plateau breaker.”

I have developed the GirlHustle Trainer and I also offer five Week Transformation Challenges to work one-on-one with women who desire extra help and accountability.

I am most proud of GirlHustle and the online FB community that has developed. The women who have joined the GirlHustle Trainer are one of a kind. I’ve never encountered a group of women who truly care about each other. They cheer each others success and help others stay accountable. They rally behind each other. Although the majority of us have never met in person, I can confidently say we have all developed long-term friendships with each other. It truly is amazing. I feel really blessed that the idea of GirlHustle has created such a strong bond of women.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
I will say this without hesitation. Lady Gaga is one of my biggest large-scale inspirations. She is a girl who hustles! Her passion and work ethic have resonated with me through my low times and have kept me working hard. Anytime I watch or read any interviews with her, I always find the inspiration I need. She doesn’t let the negativity or her chronic pain keep her from doing her thing and doing it with full force.

I could name several women who inspire me, but two others at the moment really come to mind. I really look up to is my sister Stacia and my cousin Danielle. They are both incredibly kind, hard-working, and smart. They have never let biases or the odds keep them from their dream careers. Both Stacia and Danielle always know what to say to give me inspiration and confidence to keep pursuing my own dreams.
