Meet Trailblazer Nicole Reid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Reid.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Before I began my journey as a blogger and designer, I had this crazy idea that I would open a cupcake shop with my mother. I spent all of my time testing recipes and getting anyone around me to try them. I was so preoccupied with getting this business up and running that I completely neglected to decorate our new home. One day, my husband asked if I could spend a little more time fixing our home up. You know, actually hanging pictures on the wall and buying furniture. At that point, I started to see my home in a different light. It ignited a spark in me to make my home feel like a home. From there, my mom convinced me to start a blog to share the projects we began doing around our home. And from there, Home on Poplar Creek was born!

From the blog, I found a love and passion for creating beautiful homes and helping other families create spaces they love. Now, I spend my time growing my blog, doing DIY projects to fix up our current home and taking on client projects.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think with anything you do, there will always be challenges. I face struggles daily from trying to find a balance between family and work, putting myself out there for the world to see and comparing myself to other people’s journeys. It’s a constant battle both mentally and physically when you’re trying to raise a family and build a long-standing business.

My biggest piece of advice is to focus solely on your own purpose and vision for your life. It’s so easy to look at other’s success and feel they’re where you should be. But you never know what they had to go through to get there. Also, always put your family first. At the end of the day, your family will always be there. Never make them feel like they come second to your business, social media or anything else. Live in the moment with them and work to find balance, whatever that looks like for you.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time blogger at Home on Poplar Creek, where I share design tips, DIY projects, recipes and occasionally real talk about life as a wife and mother. My dream is to inspire women to create a warm and inviting home for their families and still live out their own dreams. I love connecting with other bloggers and home enthusiasts on Instagram and browsing Pinterest for constant inspiration.

I also provide e-design services for families to help them create living spaces that are special to them. I like to get to know my clients and everything that is important to them to make sure every member of their family is happy. I will also be launching an online home decor retail market selling home accessories and home textiles very soon so stay tuned!

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I highly suggest going to trade conferences and getting to know like-minded people on social media. Make genuine connections with people in your industry and support and cheer them on. Your network will grow as you grow and you will find that you have people that will be there for you to support and celebrate your wins.
