Meet Tressa Thomas of Tressavent Photography in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tressa Thomas.

Tressa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Before starting my business, I worked for a non-profit for almost 8 years helping with outreach and raising funds for research. It was during this time, that I saw a need for professional photographs that would help bring awareness to our mission through the stories of those involved with the organization.

If we could put a face with those stories using beautiful photographs… wow, that would be really impactful. However, like many non-profits, we did not have the funds in our budget to hire someone. But thanks to my dad for sharing his love of photography and to my mom for always encouraging creativity, having a camera in my hands has always been something that I really enjoyed. So I went to work dusting off my skills, taking my camera to our different events, and just like that… my passion for photography was reignited.

As that continued to grow, so did my love for photographing people and creating portraits that tell a story. And before I knew it, Tressavent Photography & Love Capture Give® was born, combining my love of photography and philanthropy. Each session purchased through Tressavent Photography allows me to donate Love Capture Give® sessions throughout the year to local non-profits. These special sessions are designed to help bring awareness to their stories and all the great work they are doing in the community.

The photos that I included below are all from Love Capture Give® sessions with the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. They have been an incredible non-profit partner with me for over the last several years now. Love them and all that they do!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I grew up in a family of entrepenuaers so it’s always been a dream of mine to own my own business. I’m glad that they showed me the good and also the messy parts, it has definitely helped me in my journey. I’d say one of the biggest challenges is keeping up with everything that goes on behind the scenes. As a small business owner, you wear a bunch of different hats and not all of them are fun or glamorous. It’s hard work, but I love it!!

When I do come across a struggle, I think about what I can learn from it and how I can improve. One of the best things I did when starting my business was I invested in a photography workshop with someone whose work I love and respect. Her, along with the friends I made from that experience, have been priceless. Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive, and like-minded individuals is important.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tressavent Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a natural light photographer that loves working with families, newborns, graduating seniors, and couples all around the DFW metroplex {and even travel sessions}. I love creating photographs that show real expressions and emotions that capture people just the way they are. I want to do more than just have them smile at the camera. I want them to be able to look at their photographs and feel something, to see their personalities, how they love and interact. Not just for them, but also for their loved ones and for those that come along after us. My goal with every session is to artfully document their happiness so that it can be passed on for years to come.

I’m so grateful for those that have trusted me with their memories over the years. It has allowed me to build a business that combines my love of photography and giving back. TOGETHER, we have created something pretty special and that makes me so damn proud. I’d like to give a BIG thanks to everyone who has helped {and continues to help} me with this crazy, awesome dream! Without you, none of this would exist and I hope that it makes your heart as happy as it makes mine.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m always looking for ways I can continue to grow my business and give back more. This year is no different and I can’t wait to see it all come together. I’m looking forward to creating lots of beautiful photographs and making the biggest impact possible.
