Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Dunn.
Troy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today? 2009 I was barely getting by living paycheck to paycheck. I had a job. Got divorced at 35 and knew I wanted more. I wanted a career, not just a job. I wanted a reputation my kids could be proud of. I wanted to be the guy people looked up to and do something that would leave a legacy in the community and in my business. The NET Chamber is my proudest accomplishment. I joined and began focusing on building a reputation of a volunteer who cared about helping anyway possible. My goal was to never ask anyone for business. And it has worked. The reputation and community involvement has made my phone ring with people who ask me to be their agent. People want to put their business with people they see care about them as well as everyone around. It’s not about saving money (even though I love when I can save people money) but it’s about value. Today my business is beyond my wildest imagination. I was married in 2015 to Kristy and she has become my partner in business and joined in all my volunteer efforts as well as runs our office. I am honored to be on the NET Chamber Board of Directors for 2018, Haltom City Girls Softball Board of Directors President 2018, appointed 3 years ago to the Haltom City Parks Board, and in February my wife and I were recipients of the Community Spirit Award from the NET Chamber. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, and it took me 35 years of my life to stop waiting around and make things happen myself.
Has it been a smooth road? The biggest struggle is sticking to the plan. Nothing worth doing is ever easy. Running your own business, especially a customer focused business, is time consuming. I had to figure out how to separate my business from my family time. It took me several years before I finally was able to take a vacation without answering my phone when Kristy and I took our kids to Disneyworld last summer.

Ours is the personal touch. We contact every customer 30 days before renewal with comparisons from other companies and our suggestions so our clients can get the best value possible. We do not represent our companies, we represent our clients. Receiving phone calls daily from people who are referred to us from other clients is the proudest I can ever feel. When someone sends their friends and family and they tell you ” I was told you are the best” is the biggest compliment a business owner can ever receive.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least? There are a lot of beautiful places around the country. My wife and I visited New York City at Christmas and it was amazing. But as we were headed to the airport we both said it was great, but it’s not Texas. We have the best economy in the country, opportunity everywhere and we are Texas. It does not get any better. That’s why people are moving here as fast as they can. The DFW area is such a growing and thriving area of the state, I feel it’s the place to be. I have lived in Fort Worth my whole life and am one of those very proud Texans.
