Meet Tyllah-Chanel Hampton of Touched By Ty in Tyler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyllah-Chanel Hampton.

Tyllah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my company as a waitress at IHOP in 2018. I saved $200 to buy a laptop, table, chair, created a pricing sheet, and started promoting on Twitter. I started my journey with 2,000 twitter followers, and now I have almost 10,000. I’ve built my business and following with 0 paid advertising or promo. I strictly create content on twitter and gain new clients through referrals. To date, I’ve started three umbrella companies and expanded my team to 5 employees. It is not easy, but it has been worth it!

Truthfully, I never in a million years thought that I would be here. It feels surreal, unreal at times, honestly. I’ve been flown out to speak at events, made thousands within 48 hours, and lived out some of my biggest dreams. At 22, it feels unreal to do any of that, let alone tell other people about it. Most things I’ve accomplished, I honestly can’t believe that I did those things; partly because of where I come from and partly because I have had to face my biggest demons at my loneliest hour and hold it together and push through.

I think that a lot of entrepreneurs shy away from talking about their struggles, which is why I try to be open about mine. Sometimes, I have hard days, and sometimes I have hard weeks. It is very stressful trying to meet deadlines, make sales, make people happy, and continuously be on time for other people. As a result, I’ve made a lot of sacrifices, and not everyone is willing to sacrifice as much as my husband or I have to get to this point. I hate when people downplay how hard entrepreneurship is because the truth is we do not get to clock out when our shift is over. As a business owner, I am on call 24/7, and I am expected to deliver agreeable solutions for myself, my employees, and my clients regardless of life’s circumstances. If I could start over and do it again, I’d do some things differently, but hey, there is a learning curve when you are the first entrepreneur in your family to work for yourself 100%.

Has it been a smooth road?
In short, no, not at all. It has been an emotional rollercoaster with tears, arguments, migraines, and sleepless weeks. In the beginning, I would work 18 hours a day to the point where I’d fall asleep on my computer from complete exhaustion. I am one of those people that is all in or nothing, and sometimes this has caused me to beat myself up in the process of being a perfectionist.

I think two of my biggest challenges were building a team and learning how to pivot and grow with my audience. I’ve met a lot of great people along the way, but no one will run my businesses with as much care and love as I do. It took me a while to learn how to cut ties with people and contracts to find better and more reliable people to work with.

Learning to pivot and grow for me meant that I needed to learn how to overcome dry periods in the business, which is why I started two new companies that offer digital services to small companies and brands. I knew the value of working with businesses, but I did not always have access to business owners. When I started my company, I worked with who I was in closest proximity until I learned how to market to companies and business owners.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We do a little of everything within each company. With our writing company, we specialize in essay, resume and business plan writing, and editing. We recently expanded into manuscripts, books, poetry, website copywriting, and email templates for sales. Pretty much anything that needs to be written, we will do. However, one of our favorite things to do is to create written content for other brands to use to grow their audience. To date, we’ve helped restaurants, catering companies, food trucks, doctors, spiritual companies, college students, and establish professionals to accomplish their goals.

Within our digital marketing agency, we cater to small businesses with unique needs. As a result, we focus heavily on branding and lead generation through Twitter, Quora, and Pinterest. All of which are completed by offering affordable website development, logo design, marketing merchandising, event merchandising, landing page publishing, and social media management. Time and time again, I’ve seen companies say that they cater to small businesses, but many of their services are unrealistically priced to work for companies that have less than 15 employees. Which is where I come in because all of our services are less than $500 and you can build a business bundle service for less than $2,000 to start your business online within 90 days!

Lastly, our mentorship service that is exclusive to 10 people at a time is centered around the needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs just getting started. Within these services, we combine our writing and digital marketing services to help our clients build professionally polished logos, websites, and brands that resonate with their audiences. We teach our mentors how to create content, define their audience, and market their services without coming off as “salesy” or annoying on social media.

Again, thank you so much for this opportunity! It is greatly appreciated. (:
