Meet Vanessa Newman

Hi Vanessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When my husband took a job in Dallas in 2018, it turned my world upside down. We moved from our home of 18 years in The Woodlands (N. Houston) where I was finally starting a career as a Realtor and working primarily with first-time homebuyers. When we moved to Dallas, I was suddenly left with an empty nest, no clue how to do Real Estate in a big city, and didn’t know a soul. I knew the first thing I needed to do was to get out and meet people so I became a “professional networker”. I was having a hard time finding an online women’s support group so I started my own. It’s called Dallas Diva Network and It’s for women in the DFW area to have a place to collaborate and support each other. Right now, it is mainly women that have businesses but it is open to all women that are looking for a community.

Through my networking, I met someone that was doing something that really intrigued me, I had my life and health Insurance license but had never really done anything with it. I love helping people, so when I found out I could help people with their Health Insurance options, I knew this was a good fit. I am also getting back into Real Estate, focusing on people that need to sell their home quickly, either due to possibly losing their home to foreclosure or through a divorce. I recently signed on with KW Urban and I am on a team that is based in Houston so I can sell homes in both locations. For those of you thinking, how can she do both Real Estate and Health Insurance, It really is a good balance, especially since my perfect health insurance client is 1099 and a small business. I am used to staying busy and organizing schedules from raising four kids. I also realized I am really good at negotiating because of them! Oh and I can also help you look your best with Mary Kay! When she puts her mind to it – One Woman CAN!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Trying to figure out how to start over at 52! I had to do a lot of soul searching, praying and waiting! That was the hardest part for me to learn, to slow down and wait! I had a few failures trying to figure out a good fit for me along the way but I looked at those as learning experiences not failures. My Dad was a Marine for 21 years and then became a Methodist preacher. I watched my Dad get his college degree through hard work and determination after retiring from the military. He was the first person in the family to get a degree and top of his class, his dad only had a 4th-grade education. He taught me how to persevere the obstacles and have faith that God’s plan (not mine!) would work out in the end.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It’s hard to pick just one here. I think my brand would be Dallas Diva Network and my sub-brands would be Health Insurance and Real Estate. Being the leader of DDN, I am connecting people and helping them grow. It’s more about helping others than about myself with anything I do. When it comes to Real Estate, I offer solutions to problems, I help people get out of a bad situation. Whether that is facing foreclosure or divorce, my mission is to help get the most equity out and as quickly as possible. I have buyers on standby through a KW buyers resource or a private investor ready to pay cash at a reasonable price. When it comes to Health Insurance, I am an Independent Health Insurance Broker which means I can help with ACA coverage and Health Sharing plans. I also offer affordable private Health Insurance options for 1099 self-employed, small businesses under 20 employees and Individuals- most people don’t even know this is an option. If you’re looking for lower premiums, no-copay or deductibles, this is probably going to be the best option.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like the best about Dallas… I have never lived in a city before, so I love the city life in Uptown! I have a beautiful view of the skyline in a highrise and I am just a trolly ride to downtown. I love the people, culture, lifestyle, diversity and food options! What I like least about Dallas… Seeing all the homeless people. I know there are resources for them but I wish the city had something better for them other than living on the streets. We need a tiny home neighborhood or something.
