Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Jones.
Hi Victoria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Owning a small business making custom decorated sugar cookies is purely happenstance and I love the story of how it came about! Three years ago, I was preparing for my daughter, Penelope’s, first birthday. I really wanted to get some custom cookies to celebrate the special occasion. Everyone that I reached out to was unavailable due to her birthday falling just after Halloween. I had all but given up on having cookies for her birthday when at the last minute I found someone who could make them. As I was eating one, the all too familiar experience of eating a hard, dry, and flavorless beautiful cookie came to fruition. I was super disappointed. Then and there, I decided that I was going to learn how to make decorated sugar cookies that were as delicious as they were beautiful so I would never have to go through that experience again. A month later, I took a beginner cookie decorating class and fell in love. Easter rolled around, and I made cookies to practice my new skills. I sent my husband to work with some of the cookies and gave the rest to my neighbors. Those who got my cookies had nothing but great things to say about them, and before I knew it, I was getting order requests for upcoming May and June graduations. At first, I was reluctant and declined the orders. A few more requests came in, and I began to think that maybe I actually had something that was worthwhile. With a little motivation from my husband, I decided to go for it and launched Little Penelope’s Cookie Boutique in ode to the precious baby who was the reason for the newfound cookie craze that I fell absolutely in love with!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting up and running my cookie business has been a blast! Luckily, the community of cookiers I have become a part of have been extremely helpful with figuring out how to do all the things cookie-related. As my business has grown, I have been able to reach out to other cookiers for answers to many of my questions. There has also been a lot of trial and error, but overall, I would say it has been a smooth process. That doesn’t mean that it has necessarily been easy, but the obstacles I have come across have been opportunities for learning and growing in a healthy way!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Little Penelope’s Cookie Boutique?
I own a boutique custom decorated sugar cookie business that is run out of my home under the Texas Cottage Food Law. I specialize in all-occasion custom hand-decorated sugar cookies. I pride myself on making sugar cookies that taste even better than they look! The sole reason I wanted to learn to make my own decorated cookies was because the majority of the ones I had purchased in the past simply did not taste good! I do not mass produce cookies, and no two cookie orders are decorated the same. I use the information my client gives me about their event the create delicious, beautiful cookies personalized according to their desires.
Making custom decorated sugar cookies is a passion of mine, and I thoroughly enjoy making my clients’ special events even more special by adding that personalized cookie touch!
