Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Williams.
Whitney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved how the world looks through the lens of a camera. How you can freeze a moment in time and look back on that photo a day, a week, a year later and feel the same emotions. I originally took photography classes in high school and kind of dropped photography to become a mama. I officially started my business in 2017 after battling postpartum depression. I needed something to pull me out, so I began Gage Photography.
At the beginning of 2019, my little family decided to move from Indiana to Texas and I pretty much started my business from scratch again. In July of 2019, I rebranded with the name East Layne Photography after my babies (Easton Gage and Emerson Layne).
Since then, my business has boomed. I’ve had so many photographers and clients help get my feet on the ground, and my business has flourished in Texas. I’m truly thankful for this transition and can’t wait to see where 2020 takes me!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Learning an art in and of itself is difficult and constantly changing. You are constantly growing and changing as an artist and learning your “flow”. I would say that I have a good eye for photography, but had struggled at finding “my style”. Once I learned that we decided to move cross country. All in all, I would say that I’ve been blessed with struggles that have made me a stronger artist.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with East Layne Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a lifestyle photographer in the North Dallas area. By that, it means that I capture all of the big moments for my clients. From weddings and births, proposals and maternity, and to all of the small, everyday, special moments in between families. I want my clients to come back to me as their family photographer for any event and know that I will excel in whatever they throw at me.
I am most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to build my business up from scratch in two very different locations (read: STATES). I’ve been able to meet so many new people through my business and those same people are the ones who have contributed to the growth of my business. I am so thankful for where photography has led me and where it continues to guide me to.
What sets me apart from others is that I try my best to give my clients a custom experience and to actually get to know them as people. I am the photographer that has the most patience for your children and will do crazy things to get them to smile, I want my clients to look back on their photos and love what they see. I want them to remember the real and raw feelings they had.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
For the last few years, I have been solely focused on births. However, with the recent birth of my daughter, I don’t feel like I have the adequate childcare to give my clients the best experience I can. So, I am transitioning into the wedding industry for 2020. I am so excited to begin this chapter and to meet new people in this area. Weddings aren’t so different than births. They are once in a lifetime events that you have one shot at capturing. My clients will receive custom packaging tailored to exactly what they want from their big day. I can’t wait to meet new bride’s and groom’s for the 2020 year!
I’m also planning big events for each month. One that I am so excited for is offering mini sessions where 100% of the proceeds go to a local charity! I truly believe that we are here to help the community around us and what better way than to volunteer my time for people who need help!
