Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuri Waddell.
Yuri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a native of Kentucky but currently reside in Dallas, Texas. I grew up with an artist and fashionista for a mother. As a child, I sketched fashion figures and remodeled my bedroom at least once every three months. When the time came to go to college and choose a major, I chose the one I was most passionate, design. While studying fashion and interior design at Tennessee State University I was a featured designer in many fashion shows on campus and around the city of Nashville.
I began my career in retail as a visual fashion merchandiser. After helping a friend plan her wedding I fell passionately in love with event planning. I went back to school majoring in project management and became an event planner. I have worked for several entertainment venues in Dallas, Texas. While I was able to be creative, my creativity was limited. Still seeking to work in my purpose I began, Yuri Alexis Designs providing fashion and interior design services as well as event planning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Living this life with a creative mind, I see the beauty and business in a grain of sand. I see intoxicating colors in the sky and images in wallpaper. As a creative person with many talents, it has been a struggle making this natural talent into a profitable business. I would often get lost in my passion for fashion, interior design and event planning. A close friend of mine often says she is so mesmerized on how my mind works.
While I often struggle with which creative talent to provide as a service to others. But, these struggles are only stumbling blocks with many encouraging sermons, podcast by Auntie O and support from friends and family I find success in my creativity. Instead of putting my creativity in a box and limiting my services to the world, I decided to be my own muse and walk in my passion.
Please tell us more about your work.
Yuri Alexis Designs takes great care in creating and actualizing tangible, visible products. I am a polished artist in all creative ideas, and through conversations that ensure understanding of what the client desires and hopes to experience, I am able to provide the visionary event or product on an incredibly precise and meticulous level.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be summers at my grandparent’s house. My grandmother would wake my siblings and I up in the middle of the night to go for a walk in the neighborhood. While on those walks she would share family stories and history that will stick with me forever. She taught me that you don’t always have to play by the rules if you feel like taking a stroll… at midnight… in your pj’s…do it!

Wow! Yuri Alexis is a gem and so glad she was recognized as the beauty she is! When we were younger she designed our teal and purple houses that would be next door to one another. Her creations reflect her beauty and cannot be duplicated. Continue living your passion, walking at midnight and lightning up the path that others may see! You are a beauty!
