Today we’d like to introduce you to Zuri Lokken.
Zuri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My full name is Zurisadai Adbeel Lokken.
I was born on September 5th, 1993 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
I am a singer, songwriter, published model, modeling instructor, and dancer.
I want to say that for as long as I can remember I have always been an entertainer. I started modeling in catalogs at the age of three and I was choreographing full music productions at every family event or really any chance I got.
Growing up in church, I was always involved in choir, the dance team, the worship team, and every holiday production. But I loved it! I loved always performing.
At home, my parents listened to a lot of Spanish Christian Artists and Spanish Music. I’ll say that it gave me an introduction to not just music but Spanish music and the feel for it and how alive all the sounds are.
Eventually, I started discovering other artists and music genres of my own. Even if I couldn’t play any instruments, I would write and fill journals with lyrics and poems.
At 18, I got signed to the Linicomn Agency, in Dallas, Tx and also began working with producers on developing my own sound. I found out I had a love for R&B music, so the Genre I used to classify my music under was Pop, R&B, with a little bit of EDM mixed with a little old school soul. That same year I came out with my first ever single called “Tonight I’m Doing Me” and it was a perfect representation of all of those genres coming together.
I continued to develop my own sound as I also continued on with my modeling and acting career. On a day that my agency sent me to casting in Frisco, Tx, I walked up to meet a person that would change my life forever. That person was my husband Nick Lokken. Nick Lokken is an extremely incredibly talented Singer/Songwriter and Producer.
After a year of being married, we decided it was time to marry our sounds together and we formed Willow + Wife. Willow + Wife is a Latin/American Coastal Pop Duo.
We merged my Latin, Pop Dance/EDM sounds with his Coastal, Pop, Indie Acoustic Sounds and have been pretty incredibly astounded with the results. We are still just at the beginning stages but so far we have had the opportunity to create something really different and unique and we are running with it full force and the response to our music has been incredible! Everyone loves it! We are all about good vibes, happiness and finding the positivity in everything even when dealing with everyday life and situations. We are currently releasing a lot of music as it is SUMMERTIME and we have no plans on stopping! We are also working on a lot of collaborations with some very talented producers and DJ’s from all different parts of the world. We have BIG PLANS for Willow + Wife, so you are really going to want to stay tuned.
Currently, I am also working as a Modeling Instructor as well as am still modeling full time. I love what I do. I get to work with all kinds of incredibly talented people who some just need a friend to give them encouragement and tell them they can do anything they set their mind to. I love seeing the potential and bringing it out in people.
Truthfully, I just love getting to encourage people and I love making people feel good about themselves. As far as modeling, I am currently independently booking a lot of projects and shoots! I am very fortunate to have gotten the opportunities I have had the pleasure of working on and I am very excited for future opportunities and future projects to come!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ha, no way!
But the struggle has been a part of it all.
There have been so many moments where I have just wanted to give up, or where I didn’t know what was going to happen next… but there is ALWAYS something good just around the corner.
I have learned that “struggles” or “mistakes” are more lessons and blessings. Life is for you even in those hard moments where it may be hard to believe you have to keep believing that life is for you. So, be thankful for the struggle, because I am. It’s taught me who I am.
Please tell us about Willow + Wife – what should we know?
Willow + Wife is a Latin/American Coastal Pop Duo.
Currently, we are working on a lot of musical collaborations and projects with Producers and Dj’s from all over the world.
Willow + Wife is known for writing (both English and Spanish), recording and producing all of their own music. We specialize in catchy, beach, feel-good music but are currently expanding our market to different genres such as EDM, Latin, House. etc.
Some of the most recent work that we would be known for is our recent Single “Poolside in La” as well as a favorite of many our Single “Sex on the Beach.”
I would say one of the proudest things we are known for is the “Sex On The Beach” Music Video which was recently filmed in Laguna Beach, California.
All shot and edited by Kevin Yoki on a 4K Highest of Resolutions Camera but also the Scenery and Story of the song all came together in the most beautiful way.
What sets us apart is our passion. We do music because it’s our love, its a part of who we are. We can’t turn it off no matter what. We didn’t start this for the money or the fame we did it for the love of the music and I think that is what you can truly hear that sets us apart. We are the perfect combination of real love and dreams coming true. together
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First of all, I would not physically be here without my parents but not just physical these humans are the most selfless, loving, humble, supportive people on the planet. Their whole lives have been about serving and giving. And not just their kids but really to anyone that needs it. They taught me to be strong and that I can do anything I put my mind to. So, I would like to thank Abisai Rebolledo and Leticia Rebolledo for giving your lives to give me and my siblings the best life any child could dream of.
And of course!
I would like to thank my husband Nick Lokken. He is the strongest, most talented, intelligent, thoughtful, supportive and loving person I know. He has been a true partner, friend, and rock through every high and every low that life has thrown our way. He has pulled me in for every out, he has pulled me forward for every backwards, and he has pulled me up for every down. No matter what that man has always remained the same and his loyalty and love is out of this world. This man is so incredibly talented and I am forever thankful that he chooses to want to work with me. He keeps music alive in my life. The countless hours he spends on the guitar or editing a track I swear his work ethic is second to none and he will not be stopped. So, thank you, Nick Lokken, for every little detail you do for me and for us. It does not and will never go unnoticed.
