Today we’d like to introduce you to Adilah Salaam.
Hi Adilah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always had a passion for interior design. In my younger years, I would change around my room often. Although shared with my sister, it did not stop me. My mother always kept our home decorated. I became a Texas Realtor in 2004. So, my love for residential spaces allowed me to see the homes in their raw state. This was exciting. I relish in walking into homes and seeing the possibilities. Especially when clients are unable to visualize the space. My creative mind allowed me to see the whole room. Not only the accent chair or art piece going in. In April 2019, I decided to jump and founded A.S. Styled Interiors, LLC. This was a birthday gift to myself. The perception of doing what I love was heavy on my mind and heart. I wanted to be the visionary behind designed/styled homes. I enrolled in school later in the year to get my Interior Design Certification.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? I wouldn’t say that. Some areas were smooth as far as deciding to turn my passion into a business. The beginning steps of creating the LLC and other admin work. That was smooth. My excitement for the New Year and all the possibilities ahead. I was a new business owner ready to network and transform residential spaces. Then the road started to get bumpy. It was truly bumpy before 2019 holiday season with the loss of a family member. Then shortly into 2020, my 9-5 corporate job ended. Next, the pandemic hit. As a new service-based business, I quickly had to pivot. An emerging interior stylist/business owner, networking via social media became the norm. Not to mention the extended lead times on deliveries the industry faced. The pandemic aided in the struggles. I learned to keep pushing through it. I am doing what I love. I also know, there is nothing wrong with taking a pivot to keep your journey on the right path.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Principal Stylist at A.S. Styled Interiors, LLC and a licensed Realtor servicing the Dallas metroplex. A.S. Styled Interiors specializes in residential interior styling. I adore assisting my client in bringing their vision to life. I believe everyone should have a beautiful space to enjoy. I am honored to be able to do what I love in design and real estate. Transforming my clients home one room at a time. I am able to help residential sellers, buyers, renters, and apartment seekers get the keys to their new place. Additionally, I can help them make the new place a home with my design/styling service. I coined #sellbuystyle, which marries my Real Estate and Interior Stylist services.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would like readers to know that if you have a dream, it is up to you to make it come true. This New Jersey-born woman that grew up in Dallas, Texas, is making strides every day. I encourage my two young adults (children) to do the same. My household is a creative one. My son is a sketch artist and my daughter is a fashion creative.
