Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Armstrong.
Hi Cecilia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started just by getting my brows waxed for a trip. I was referred to a lady named Kena, I went to my appointment and immediately she started asking me to join her cosmetic line as a consultant. At that time, I was not into make-up so I turned her down. Only to make an appointment one month later to get my make-up done for my 36th birthday. Well, that opened up a whole new world for me. From that 1 day, I picked up a modeling contract so I needed my face done more often. And let me tell you Kena does not take NO for an answer. Every appointment she would say ” if you join as a consultant, I can teach how to do this yourself!” Me being a diva was like Naaah, I’ll continue to pay. I called my dad after one of my appointments to talk to him about it and he felt it was a good idea, so I finally joined the movement and I must say it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. It has become my outlet now after having a tracheotomy, to show the world being different can still be beautiful. Having a trach can be challenging but I refuse to let my medical condition to stop my movement of boosting confidence and making the world beautiful one face at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not smooth at all!! I came in literally not knowing anything about makeup. I couldn’t tell you the difference between concealer and liquid. I didn’t know what a halo or a cut crease was. After two months I really wanted to give up because I felt I couldn’t sell the products if I didn’t know how to use them. And that’s where Kena’s weekly class for the consultants and my now partner came into play. We had a class that would teach the newcomers the Mocca way of applications. Because this was a new skill to me it took me a minute to catch on. Frustrated I called my partner Elicia aka CrownedbyCriss and expressed how I wanted to give up, but she refused. She took time out of her busy schedule, she’s a teacher and she has a family, to literally place my hand and product where it’s supposed to be. There was a new skill taught weekly and I had to practice and send her pictures so she could critique them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Mocca Makeup and skincare consultant, any product we carry I can order for you, or you can schedule a consultation and we can figure out what your skin needs. But I mainly focus on the artisty. After learning the skills to become a makeup artist, I love transforming my clients. The level of confidence my clients have stepping out of my suite makes my heart melt. And the fact I can transform you but still look natural is what I really take pride in.
What are your plans for the future?
My main goal is for me and my partner. Elicia, to open our own salon with a storefront for all of the products we offer. Recently I moved into a Spa just so that I can advertise more and have a location for my clients to come to that will also offer other services like body sculpting.
