Today we’d like to introduce you to Christi Slider.
Hi Christi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been fascinated with photography and the moments and beauty captured by photography. I started photography as a child capturing friends, family, and myself on film. While in college, I continued that love for photography taking photography classes and being the unofficial photographer for my gymnastics team and class events. After life changes, I picked up a camera once again to document sports and family gatherings, and I was reminded how much I enjoyed photography. It was then when I started this business and have slowly grown this business from doing mostly gymnastics and family portraits to a full boutique studio that mainly concentrates on high school seniors and families.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being in business for yourself is never easy, but is worth the struggle. It has not been easy along the way. I have learned many things, such as pricing and client management, through trial and error. I have continuously taken classes to supplement my knowledge of photography and business. I have failed many times but have also succeeded. The year 2020 was an extremely tumultuous year for everyone, including my business. I had to scale back my business substantially due to the pandemic and took the time to add to my education and join other photographers in mentorship groups.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a boutique portrait photographer, which means I like to work closely with my clients to create custom artwork with them in mind for them to display in their homes. I work hand in hand with clients and involve them in each step of the process. I specialize in high school seniors. My high school senior program varies each year, but it involves mentoring high school seniors from a local school to doing a yearlong photography project capturing moments throughout their senior year that concludes with the senior receiving a custom portrait book with a letter included from parents/ guardians for them to cherish for the rest of their lives. For high school seniors, we collaborate on their sessions, from their outfits to their interests, and pour into each and every senior client. For every client, especially seniors we capture their portraits in their element, whether they are an award-winning gymnast, gaming expert, incredible bookworm, or avid horse rider- I capture who they are and translate that into a custom piece of artwork. I also photograph families and enjoy capturing memories for families and helping families decorate their homes with beautiful artwork. As a business, I like to uplift and help create artwork that reminds seniors, families, and kids each day that they are loved and are amazing just because they were created. Creating portraits is just the end product of being able to pour into people and capture the beauty of them.
