Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Heggar.
As a child I always dreamed of being a successful professional athlete, one-second dream was to become a professional musician, at some point I knew one would be harder than the other to accomplish, as time went on music seem to be the way to go. As a kid, you didn’t have the references as one has now, no cable TV, no internet, no YouTube no MTV. You had The Ed Sullivan Show that came on Sunday nights, everyone would gather around the TV to watch The Jackson 5, The Beatles, Diana Ross, and The Supremes, and artist like that to get the inspiration of one of my dreams. As time went by my siblings begin to start playing instruments in school, as time went on their interest grew stronger as one of my older brother started playing drums, he started getting good, I would sit and watch him play to recording of his favorite bands. At this point, he ask me to learn how to play the bass guitar. After my parents bought my first bass I struggled for a long time because the instrument was very uncomfortable for me to play so I put it in the closet. As time went on my brother notice no progress in my ability, he immediately told me “Don’t ever quit son, if you start something you finish it,” that’s the process of anything. I started back to practice and finally hit my stride, had my breakthrough; things started making since things started sounding better; I can now start playing with records, I could then start playing with him; I was able to now play with a group of people. This is the process of where I am today, you have to work hard to play hard; I apply this to everything; nothing is giving to me; I have to earn it!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As musician, you have to start from the bottom, work hard, learn your craft, be accepted by world-class musicians. These are the starting points and key elements to the road of being successful. I happen to work hard to meet those challenges through proper training and learning from experience musicians that are older and more advanced. I always express that to every inspired musician, you learn from people who have done it for a long time; it’s so much to learn.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional working Musician/Bassist/Bass Instructor I specialize in entertaining people, provide musical needs creatively and serve musically on a high level with a high-profile band from Dallas TX called the Emerald City Band (emeraldcityband.com) Giving credit to Deno Taglioli the founder and leader of the group for his guidance and direction to better my musicianship along the way.
I’m also a Church musician (polc.cc) The Pathway Of Life Dallas) I use my skill set to express myself spiritually and musically having the understanding to serve with a strong faith in God. He gave us a gift, you have to use that gift for his purpose; anything before that is to sharpen your skill set for his Ministry! Giving credit to Pastor Danny Wegman and Pastor Kelly James for guiding me and alloying me to use my gift and skill set but to also learn how to use it. Both of these gentleman are on top of their game, one is guiding me in my walk spiritually, the other is showing how to use it. Thats called growing!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Might view on risk-taking is simple! There’s nothing like first impression; people always remember 2 things, what happens in the beginning, what’s happens in the end. When you step out to accomplish anything, your career, your business, it’s important to know what you’re getting into, learn your craft; that’s the difference between success and failure!
