Today we’d like to introduce you to Krithika Ramachandran.
Hi Krithika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a Telecom Engineer. I moved to Dallas, Texas close to 27 years ago. As a career-oriented individual, cooking was never on my mind. Back in India, I lived with my parents, and my mother did all the cooking. Even though I knew the principals of cooking and I was connected with it scientifically, I never thought I would be the one cooking once I got married and moved far away from home. Once I settled down here, which I now call my home, I took it as a challenge to put together a wholesome healthy meal for me and my husband daily. I slowly found cooking to be very therapeutic and was able to cook fresh meals every day after a tiring day at work. This formed the basis of my Instagram profile. That you can cook healthy, wholesome, fresh meals every day despite having a full-time job. There are millions of women like me who are trying to balance a home and a career and raise children. I started my Instagram account to be able to share vegetarian recipes that can be cooked with just basic ingredients. They are kid-friendly and are easy to put together. I want to build this community of women who are like me trying to juggle a career and a home. When I first moved to this country, I missed having a network like this. Blogs had started, but they were not as interactive as Instagram. I get messages from a lot of women who have either tried my recipes or are looking for meal ideas. Whatever I share are what I cook at home. I keep it as real as possible. Since my kids were born and raised here, they have been exposed to various cuisines. So, cooking knowledge has also expanded thanks to them. So now I don’t limit myself to Indian cuisine. I have learnt to make Italian, Mexican, and Mediterranean dishes as well. Over the years I have learnt to bake as well. Cooking now has become a passion. So, my account is a compilation of all the recipes that I have tried over the years. And I want to inspire women to cook at home and not be dependent on take outs. It’s all about time management and planning.
I have also expanded my interest in food photography and styling. Joining Instagram has opened other opportunities for me as well. I have been approached by brands to create recipes for them.
As far my future, I want to continue sharing recipes for women like me who are juggling a career and home. I want to branch out and work with more brands be it recipe creation, food photography or styling.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Despite your best efforts, sometimes you feel your work is not recognized. Instagram algorithm can bring down your morale. But I have learnt to look past that. Sometimes negotiations with the brand that you want to work fall through. Another aspect is juggling between the real job that is paying you and your passion. So, I have to constantly remind myself of my priorities and what I am aiming for.
