Rising Stars: Meet Lisa Emmick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Emmick.

Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was fortunate to grow up in a house filled with music! My mother taught piano lessons, and when I was in high school, I began teaching music lessons too! It was wonderful to have her guidance and experience. Through the years, I’ve always taught music lessons. As my own children grew up, more and more of their friends came to me for piano lessons, and my teaching became a full-time career. I love performing too, and have stayed active in the performance world of dance, music and theater in various capacities over the years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a fairly smooth road. I continually strive to be the best teacher possible, and each year take advantage of conferences, workshops, and other continuing education opportunities. I am also fortunate to be part of a network of strong teachers and to have the total support of my family (all musicians too!)

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for providing a very individualized and nurturing experience for my students. Some are here to pursue music in college or as a career, while others are here as just one of many activities. No matter the student’s goal, each one is important. Lessons are planned specifically to bring out the best in that individual and to give them total confidence and support so they feel free to express themselves artistically.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Time management! With teaching many lessons during the week, it helps to be super-organized so that I can budget my time wisely to balance running a business, teaching specifically to the needs of each student, and spending time with my family.
