Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Truscan.
Hi Madison, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It’s great to be back chatting with the Voyage team! Although I’ve been a photographer for about six years now, I really niched down this spring and discovered my passion for concert and live music photography. After gaining my first photo pass to a show, I knew this is exactly what I needed to do with my life moving forward. I have never felt so alive and so driven than I do in this very moment. It’s liberating – finding your calling in life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a concert photographer is totally different than my portrait and branding work! The lighting is dark and vibrant; the musicians move fast around the stage, it’s extremely loud… not to mention it’s really all about who you know in the industry that can help you get the gigs. I have never been challenged more than this recent season. They always say you’ll get told no 99 times before you get a yes, and I can absolutely attest to that feeling.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I discovered my passion for live music photography, I am so inspired by the different bands and musicians I have had the honor of working with. I know I am set apart from others because I am easygoing, patient and will be your band’s #1 cheerleader. I’m not just another middle-aged man with a camera that costs a year’s worth of rent… I’m a scrappy, independent, and hard-working 23-year-old woman who loves nothing more than a good indie band and her little old camera bag. I do extensive research on every band I work with and go into their show or set, knowing what to expect. My dream is to go on tour as a photographer in 2023, and I can’t wait to watch my life and career goals unfold before my very eyes here soon.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Hmmm… probably Disneyland with my family. I loved meeting the characters and performers… I have always been a fan. I’m going back in a few months and love it even more as an adult!
