Rising Stars: Meet Moon Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moon Taylor.

Hi Moon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Growing up on the farm I’ve always had the pleasure of dealing with animals, But as an adult, I wanted to carry that passion further but wasn’t given that opportunity until later in life.

It was just one day while bottle feeding domestic orphan kittens I realized I missed working with animals and wanted to be able to do more, so I began to do wildlife research and what it would take to be able to rehab and help the wild animals and the laws.

During my research, I found out that you have to have a certain license and training and classes in addition to certain supplies and equipment and there was no financing available. So I had to make a decision and choose between giving up because I’m a single mom or taking a big Risk.

I decided to take a Big RISK, my research kept dragging me in more and more, I saw that they were so many rehabbers for all the wildlife except Bobcats, Panthers, Cougars, Foxes & Wolves. I continued my training to specialize in this specific wildlife, in addition to gaining every possible license I could to be able to assist in every state and to help educate others.

Finally, I was able to start my own Wildlife Sanctuary. One day I received a call about a baby bobcat ( see Tyler’s story on his page, www.TylertheBobcat.com) this is the day when my life changed and my RISK became even greater. During this journey, I managed to have Tyler the Bobcat Trademarked on 5/2022.

Having a real wild bobcat who is the ambassador of my wildlife sanctuary trademarked it is making it another step closer to helping change the laws to protect wildlife and to help protect the Bobcats and Cougars. I currently represent 15 Counties in the state of Texas where I have the great pleasure of assisting several Law Enforcement agencies and the wonderful public on their wildlife emergency. Every day my journey and risk change, but I am always willing to face the challenge.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a Wildlife Rehabber, it is never a smooth road. We face so many challenges some are sunny and bright with a wonderful success story, but then there is the dark sadness that leaves our hearts and souls so empty.

The struggles occur in the Bobcats that have to endure an injury that leaves them with Metabolic Bone Disease and they become non-releasable. Or the struggles of the public breaking the law and keeping Wildlife illegally as a pet.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Federal & USDA class C & T, and State License Wildlife Rehabber and Instructor, in addition to disaster relief. I specialize in Bobcats, Wolves, Cougars, Foxes, Panthers, and coyotes. And wildlife with Metabolic Bone Disease.

My friends would say that is my giving heart of me always helping other rescues getting supplies and donations to help their organization and animals. I am proud of the recognition that the public has given me it has allowed me to reach out beyond the state of Texas to continue to help other rescues in need, and with every challenge that I take, I refuse to give up.

What sets me apart from others? My multiple Government License and the recognition that I have received allow me to handle and care for wildlife that many have no training in, or fear that they are too dangerous to handle. My fear is not with the animals but with the uneducated public.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I want to share with the public that if you see any wildlife on your property just “Hanging Out” it’s not their nature to want to be around humans. If it appears that they need help, Then please call a licensed Wildlife Rescue to help assist with the care for any wildlife. You have to remember it’s Humans taking their home and land!
