Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Contreras.
Hi Yvette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved to bake, and I have always been a creative person, but I didn’t have this idea until I was planning my baby shower and later a small going away party for my sister. That was when I was like, you know what I want to do this and it officially started with a first order of cakepops! It was a slow start but before I knew it, people were finding me and it’s been amazing to be part of people’s special moments and creating something unique for each of my customers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think there’s ever a smooth road when you’re putting yourself out there and trying to get noticed for your craft. It was a slow start and at times, I still have slow weeks, and being a full-time mom with a full-time job and managing my small business has all been new to me. Wanting to take all the orders but also giving my time to my son has been my biggest struggle. I do this for him but the mom guilt remains.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from owning Events and Designs by Yvette and creating delicious treats, I am also a full-time employee for Louis Vuitton. I am a Client Advisor on our Mexico team and currently assist with our Care Service team as well. I am proud to say that I was part of our E-commerce team in launching our Mexico site, it was something I had never done before and learned how much trial and error truly goes into opening a site for another country.
How do you think about happiness?
My family makes me happy because even though at times everything feels overwhelming, my son turns my mood upside down. My husband has also been such big support through it all, and I don’t know what I would do without him. I also know my family are my biggest supporters and will always be on my side.
