Today we’d like to introduce you to Kya Monee’.
Kya Monee’ is a 17-year-old music artist from Austin Texas. She is known for her golden soulful voice. In addition to sharing her instrument of voice Kya also is the founder of an organization called Teen Advisory. After witnessing peers who are bullied, made fun of or just in need of clothing she has started collecting clothes that her peers would like to give to those in need. This has lifted spirits of many as well as boosted their confidence. Kya has participated in many youth groups in Austin Texas including Soultree Collective as well as Austin Women in Jazz, founder the beautiful Pamela Hart. Kya has also had the opportunity to be a part of an amazing organization called GEMS (Girls Evolving into Maturity Successfully), founder Azena Jones. She helps feed the hungry and donates her voice and time not only in her city but surrounding cities as well. Kya has also teamed up with Deep Impact Entertainment with who her first will be released within the next month and her EP will also be releasing soon.
Please tell us about your art.
Kya writes her own songs. She sings songs of hope as well as about current situations. Singing and writing help her cope with things that are going on in the world. She lost a very young friend and amazingly talented music legend this past year due to senseless violence. Through music, she lets others know it is okay to feel the way you feel be it happy or sad. She wants them to know that they are not alone in their situations. Kya would like people to know that the youth are hurting. It is time to make a change and stop name-calling, bullying, disrespect, and violence. Our youthful voices can be heard, but it needs to do it in a loving creative way. Music is her outlet of choice.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Kya does not look at being a music artist as being lonely. It is actually what she loves the most. It is a lot of hard work juggling music with school, family and friends you get to meet a lot of cool people who share some the same similarities as you. Kya enjoys doing collaborations as well as sharing others music. Another way she connects with other musicians is through social media as well as covering other artists music.
