Life and Work with Christie Gare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christie Gare.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always loved photography; usually practicing angles and lighting on my childhood animals with my parent’s point and shoot camera. I took a photography course in high school, but it wasn’t until I started reading the Pioneer Woman blog back in 2006 that I started wanting to learn more. Through her blog, I learned and practiced to understand all of the components of photography (she is a hilarious and very good teacher!). I had my first photoshoot -for friends – back in 2007 and quickly realized that photography is more than knowing the settings! Ha! It was so much more – involving posing, editing, and skill. 11 years later, I’ve had 4+ camera upgrades, multiple lenses, and this year, over 200 sessions!

Has it been a smooth road?
Surprisingly, my journey has been smooth. I’ve yet to do any real advertising – word of mouth and recommendations from clients has allowed my business to grow beyond anything I’ve ever dreamed!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Christie Gare Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I love to photograph all kinds of sessions – but especially families! I’m a mom – of 2 kiddos – and good photographs of them are so important to me. I love to give those images to other families, creating memories to be captured forever.

I’m different because…well…I give more images than the typical photographer. I do give a minimum image quality guaranteed from a session, but if I get additional shots that are good, I include them in the gallery as well. My 30-minute sessions have an average of 36 images given to the client.

My clients have said that what sets me apart is the amount of images I give, my editing style (contrasty and warm), my ability to get happy shots of kids (although they can make me work for it!), and my use of light.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love to read and re-read “Grace not perfection” by Emily Ley. It’s a good reminder at setting healthy boundaries and creating margin! I also listen to the Goal Digger podcast by Jenna Kutcher!

Pricing:

  • 30 minute session – $225+tax – minimum of 20 images
