Today we’d like to introduce you to La Bell.
La Bell, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up in a military family, along with being exposed to a multitude of geographic backgrounds, I was exposed to an array of music. The country music of my home state (Texas), along with Hip-hop (there’s a difference), Jazz, R&B, and Pop allowed me to become the artist I am today. With a wide range of influences, I’ve combined them all to create my own sultry sound that I’d consider Acoustic Soul. It’s smokey, smooth, calming and relevant. The guitar came into play years later. I didn’t know HOW to play the guitar. I just knew that I wanted to. Me being who I am, when I want to do something – either get on the bus or get out of the way! Now, I perform throughout the metroplex, living the life I was given and using the gift I was gifted.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a self-taught guitarist, I sing. I rap. I write poetry. All the things that one would consider from an artist I suppose. What I want people to take away the most is, is the essence of music. I feel that I embody music in its purest form. It’s not super elaborate. It’s not Aretha Franklin or Lady Gaga. It’s just me. Imagine Alicia Keys, Sara Bareilles, and Emily King had a love child. Aka me. I’m a singer. I’ve loved to sing since I was a child. Whether I’m famous or not, those things will never change. I want to connect with those in the audience who are hurting, who need space, and who need moments to breathe because I feel those are the individuals who will receive the most from what I give. Life inspires me. Walking outside, feeling the breeze and knowing that I’m able to breathe that in gives me all the life I need. It’s comfort, and that’s what I want people to feel when they hear my music.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I wish I’d have learned to trust myself and the process more. Confidence is also key. I have struggled with that for some time. It’s just all about you and what you do. Make sure to stay true to that. Take in advice and all the parts that apply. Also remember, that every piece of advice isn’t for you and that’s ok too. We all walk our own paths and get there exactly when we’re meant to.
