Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Crews.
Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been passionate about making jewelry since I was a child. I was really into making friendship bracelets, those little-beaded pins you’d put on your shoelaces, bright plastic neon beaded jewelry, and more! I would even make friendship bracelets for my friends to buy from me to give to some of their other friends. I was a great little entrepreneur. When I was in college, I started working for a boutique in New Braunfels, Princess Be, that sold the prettiest things, including jewelry. It inspired me to step up my jewelry making game and make stuff that was good enough to sell in the shop. The owner was kind enough to let me sell it on consignment and I was so excited; we eventually moved to her buying the pieces from me wholesale as she knew they’d sell. I started to get interest from a few other boutiques and made things for a few shops in San Antonio. I kept making things and having fun with it. I eventually moved to NYC to finish college and continued selling pieces to Princess Be.
Over time, I got too busy with school and work that I didn’t make as much jewelry but would pull out my supplies when I was feeling inspired. Then, all my friends, sister and I started getting married and bridesmaid jewelry was a must, so I got busy again! Again, more time passed, I was busy working in marketing for luxury retail companies, having babies, etc., and then just recently in April of 2018, I got inspired to start Happy Magnolias. I was following so many Instagram jewelry shops that I loved and started thinking if all these amazing women can do this, so can I! So, I began hunting for beautiful beads and findings and dusted off my old supplies and got to work making jewelry!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been pretty smooth so far. Holiday got a little bit hectic, but now I know how to better plan for next year!
Please tell us about Happy Magnolias.
Happy Magnolias is a handmade jewelry company. I make things that can be worn everyday or dressed up for special events. I make custom pieces as well. I use only quality materials and love to use recycled materials when I can. I put love and care into each unique item I make and hope that the person wearing it feels beautiful and confident in my pieces.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve started doing this a long time ago!
