Today we’d like to introduce you to Randall Upshaw.
After experiencing unemployment for a year, Randall Upshaw faced many difficulties. During church one Sunday, she heard a message about how it is better to GIVE than to RECEIVE, even when you have a great need. From that moment forward, she decided to focus less on her circumstances and more on doing acts of kindness to bring joy to others.
In November 2016, Randall discovered her gift of baking and began making baked goods for her family and friends, receiving exceptional feedback. In April 2017, she relocated back to East Texas and decided to pursue baking as a part-time business, developing a loyal customer base and securing the position as the official baker of a local Christian coffee shop in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Over 60 days, she noticed a high demand for her lemon pound cake. The cake typically sold out within 24-48 hours and remains the most popular cake at the coffee shop to this day. She began experimenting with other desserts such as cookies and cobblers and has now expanded her baking service into a full-blown event services company, serving East Texas, Houston, and Dallas.
Has it been a smooth road?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. Challenges include:
-Accepting that everyone will not always support me.
-Being rejected from business opportunities
-Disrespectful behavior from business partners that had to be gracefully addressed
-Constantly figuring out how to be innovative to keep my menu fresh
-Figuring out how to partner with other vendors to provide additional services to my clients
-Figuring out how to become more efficient (working smarter, not harder)
-Balancing a full-time job as an Offshore Corporate Trainer, traveling to Jamaica for work and a growing business

Randall Upshaw Event Services, LLC offers a wide array of event services to create the ultimate experience for each client. Our baking service, Sweet Words Baking & Gifts, specializes in classic southern desserts with hopes of taking you back down memory lane with every single bite.
Our photography service specializes in event photography, but we’ve partnered with other talented photographers in East Texas, Houston, and Dallas to meet your photography needs. We also provide a day of coordination, personal assistant, videography, t-shirt, and style consulting services to help our clients’ planning process smooth and effortless.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is definitely great for starting a business. Though I’m located in East Texas, I get many requests in Dallas for many types of events. From Arlington/Fort Worth all the way to Dallas and Duncanville, people have truly shown me a lot of love. I’m still learning the area, but I look forward to the journey of serving customers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
