Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Alvarez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Esther. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have loved makeup since I was a little girl. I started doing makeup on different family members here and in Mexico during my teenage years. I also did my cousins and sister’s makeup for their XV party. I like doing my cousins’ and aunts’ makeup every time I go to visit them in Mexico.
But I didn’t really start taking professional makeup classes until 2017. That is when I really felt that this is what I am really passionate about and wanted to get better at it. I soon started doing makeup on other people after I took those classes.
Has it been a smooth road?
It really hasn’t been a smooth road since I struggle getting clients and for people to notice my work. I am also a full-time teacher, which is a struggle to juggle, but what I have learned is that you should be dedicated to what you are really passionate about and do not let your dreams down even though there are pebbles, small and big rocks along your path. You should really push yourself and start somewhere. Believe in yourself!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in everyday makeup, prom, quinceañera, wedding, little girls makeup, etc.
I am so proud of everything I have done since I started and I’ve learned so much and continue to improve my work. I’ve always said it: “you never stop learning.” I am always looking for ways of how to grow and continue getting trained so I can offer a better job to my clients. I love seeing peoples’ reaction when they see themselves in the mirror and have a huge smile, that is when I know I have done a good job.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I am always searching on Instagram for different makeup looks either pictures or videos. My favorite makeup artist to follow on Instagram are leslie_makeup, pepegutierrezoficial, karenmunomakeupartist and makeupbykristaann. I also follow several makeup YouTubers like Makeup by Jaz and Lupe Sujey Cuevas which are my all time favorite.
The Porch podcast called “Views from The Porch” are talks that teach “how to live my life to the fullest as a single young Christian.” Rorro E Chavez podcast shares ideas, reflections and conversations that his whole purpose is to help others grow as a person. Set Apart Girl podcast whole purpose is to inspire women to pursue Christ. She Reads Truth devotions help me in my daily spiritual growth. And the best book ever, The Bible which guides me on the right path.
