Conversations with the Inspiring Kate Panza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Panza.

Kate, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I discovered photography 15 years ago when my oldest daughter was born. Fascinated by every expression and facet of her design, I began taking photos. I read, studied and practiced on every subject I could find to enhance my skills and soon, my business took off and I photographed families, children, and events over the next few years.

In the Fall of 2011, my husband’s career relocated our family to Texas. We made friends and I photographed our new life here, sharing images on social media. I knew I had to start my business from the ground up but quickly developed a strong support system through our church, friends, and community. Texans are warm, welcoming and love to support small business owners!

In 2012, I officially launched my business, under a different name at the time: Moments Captured by Kate. Still focusing on children and families, I shied away from wedding photography until 2013, when a wonderful couple took a chance on me and changed the course of my career. One wedding was all it took, and capturing love became the primary focus of my business.

Looking back now, it all makes perfect sense. I’ve always been an avid storyteller, with a broad imagination, deep love for romance and whimsy. I’ve advocated for women, championing them to embrace the beauty in their own skin, and celebrate their gifts and purpose. Through photography, I have the privilege of helping women see how loved and beautiful they really are. I fall in love with stories, people, and treasure the gift of each and every couple. I am profoundly grateful to call my passion – my profession.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. The biggest obstacle you’ll ever face, as a creative, is the nagging voices of doubt and insecurity. Yet, without vulnerability and honesty in your craft, you’ll never tap into your own creativity. Rather, you’ll find yourself drawing from images and trends that flood Pinterest and social feeds. Dare to be unique. Find your own voice. If necessary, remove anyone from your view whose work makes you feel diminished in your own. You and only you can create your art. You were born for this. Now, go do it.

What should we know about Kate Panza Photography? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a portrait and wedding photographer who specializes in capturing light, beauty, intimacy and real moments. One of the things that set me apart, is that I don’t work with every client that inquires. I believe heirloom, soul honoring photography, is achieved through a partnership of trust between me and my clients. That can only be achieved when you choose to work with someone who shares your vision. Someone with whom you trust. I don’t believe clients should entrust their wedding days to a person who can use a camera. But rather, someone whose heart is invested in the love story being told, because they genuinely care about the people in it. I believe it’s the difference between a picture and a storytelling image.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Know that you are enough. Have enough. Just as you are. Get started, be humble, grateful and kind. Like people will be attracted to who you are, not just what you do. And when clients hire you for YOU, not just your talent, therein lies the secret sauce.
