Art & Life with Skye Polk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skye Polk.

Skye, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve always been very creative and had a lot of creative outlets in High School. As I stepped into adulthood-I felt like I didn’t have anything to put my creative energy into. In 2016, my younger brother passed away, and I started to struggle with my mental health. I wanted a creative hobby to put my energy into and something to look forward to every day. I decided to start a Fashion Blog since fashion was something I had always been interested in. I actually didn’t even know Fashion Blogging was such a big community and wasn’t following any other fashion bloggers. I was pleasantly surprised when I found such a welcoming community awaiting. Not only has it done wonders for my mental health, it’s easily the most rewarding thing that I’ve ever pursued.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a Fashion Blogger who shares affordable fashion finds and style tips for women. I hope to inspire women and help them feel their best. I also love to focus on topics such as body positivity and mental health. It’s so important for me to help other women find community and confidence.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I think it’s very important to remember that success takes a lot of time. As challenging as it can be, I think it’s important to balance your creative work with a day job as you’re getting started. If you can take a day job that has to do with your art-I think it’s a great way to gain more experience and knowledge. For example, as a Fashion Blogger, my day job is working for a Personal Styling company. Both my day job and creative work feed each other and help me be better at what I do. I think it’s so valuable to always be learning a skill that can assist you with your art.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I post on Instagram under @Pumps.andPaws Supporting bloggers and influencers is really easy. Instagram gives our content more exposure based on likes and comments. If Instagram sees that your content is getting a lot of engagement, it will show it to more users. The same thing goes for brands. Working with brands is how we make an income, and brands look at our number of likes and comments before deciding to work with us. Simply supporting your favorite blogger’s content by engaging with it is extremely helpful and appreciated.
