Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Robinson.
Camille, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was a teen mom giving birth to my firstborn son at the age of 16. This was motivation for me to try to get back on the right path but that effort didn’t last long. At 17, I dropped out of high school and entered into a relationship with an older man. In this relationship it started off very materialistic driven, I was driving fancy cars, smoking lots of weed, had lots of money and jewelry.
It didn’t take long to turn ugly. I found myself in an abusive relationship which lasted five years. I had more children at 18,19 and 21. By 21 years old, I had four children and I knew my life needed to change. At this point, I saw my life for what it was, a mess! I began to cry out to God knowing that only he could help me. I was raised as a Christian at my darkest point; this is what I went back to.
I left that relationship at 21 and began to dove into my relationship with Christ. I took my kids and moved back into my mom’s house. She didn’t have too much room so we put the two couches together and that was our bed. God began to rebuild my life. I went to culinary school and became a chef I moved out and got my own place my life seemed to be going well. In 2011, my life was struck with the unthinkable. I entered into a custody battle with my former abuser that lasted three years and resulted in me losing physical custody of 3 of my children. I was depressed; I was suicidal I was completely lost. In this place is where I formed muscles. I had to fight for my life and fight to live. I pushed to continue to live in 2015.
I got married to a wonderful man. I continued to excel in my career and became the first woman and first African American to ever be executive chef in the company that I currently work at. I also began to become support to women who found themselves going against a system that cared nothing about them or their families. Entering into custody battles as well. This led me to start a podcast called the moments of joy podcast. Where I encourage not list mom’s but all women to find joy no matter what situation they are in. I was blessed to give birth to another little boy with my husband and I continued to have a relationship with my children all of these years but in 2018 they were reintroduced into my household. Today I am a voice to the broken and the lost. I come to shine a ray of hope to someone that thinks all is lost. No matter what you always have the option to choose joy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No! Not at all. You go through many many ups and downs. I have had struggles with fear, shame, and embarrassment struggles with self-worth and self-esteem. I have overcoming many obstacles and knocked down many barriers in order to encourage other women.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Moments of Joy Podcast story. Tell us more about the business.
Moments of joy podcast is a podcast that Shocases other people’s stories, not just my own. I interview people to show that you can rise and overcome so many things! Custody battles, divorce, abuse, foster care, invitro, after-effects of abortion, rape, molestation, poverty, courage, faith, are all some of the many topics that we disc is and highlight on the show.
I’m most proud because it gives a voice to the broken and allows everyday people to connect through the power of storytelling, with others.
What sets me apart from others? I believe that we are all unique in our own ways. This podcast is centered in Christ and strictly here to draw you closer to him. That’s the bottom line.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think luck has played a role at all. Not for me. I believe that Jesus is the for my success. In the words of Gospel singer Jonathon McReynolds “Im not lucky I’m loved.”
