Meet Anindita Dasgupta of Artsywanderlust

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anindita Dasgupta.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Anindita. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Fine Artist with a demonstrated history of working in the information technology and services industry. Skilled in Photography, Operations Management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Public Speaking, and Art. Strong arts and design professional with a Bachelor of Arts – BA focused in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies. I have worked full time for about 22 years. Starting with, being a Front Office assistant, a Store supervisor, a Teacher and finally the last nine years in the ITES industry in various Supervisory positions before I quit my job in 2013 to come to US with my husband.

A self-taught artist, I make abstract, intuitive and impressionistic floral art, occasionally turning towards landscapes. Use of colors is very vivid in all my pieces. They are mostly acrylics on both canvas and paper, a few are mixed media (mostly acrylic and soft pastels) and watercolor too.

I am in awe of great artists like Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt- whose use of gold in his art fascinates me. Among more contemporary artists, I truly admire the works of Karen Silve, Erin Gregory, Flora Bowley, and I am also thoroughly inspired by them.

My long lost love and gratification – ART – is my absolute full-time engagement now. Learning, painting, experimenting, creating, experiencing the euphoria and marveling at destiny, the opportunity this country has given me and at God’s ways to reward! I have finally started my Etsy shop a little over a month ago. I also direct sell my original art pieces for now. I hope to spread vibes n vibrancy of colors through my work. I also hope that my art will delight people and bring positive energy for all who see and own them!

Here’s a little bit about my work so far in four months.
1) I am a full-time artist now, since January 2019,
2) I have had one show in Dallas in May 2019 by Conception Arts of NYC.
3) My work has been published by Envision magazine twice and Outsider Art online Magazine (a subsidiary of Raw Artist).
4) My work has been selected by Dallas Public Library (Fretz Park branch) to be displayed at their center for a month (from May 1st to May 31st, 2019).
5) My work was recently selected by Trinity Arts Guild, Bedford Texas, for they juried art show to be held from May 11th to June 22nd.
6) I have opened my Etsy art shop for Prints only at this time.
7) Three of my Artworks have been selected at a juried Art Show by Envision arts. The Exhibition runs for a month starting May 24th .

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am just five months old into the art scene in Dallas, or as an Artist overall and while becoming a full-time artist was a dream come true, given my life’s unfortunate events for decades, it was was nothing short of miracle for me! However now, I won’t be daunted by struggles, I am extremely motivated and ready to put in tons of hard work to make my work reach out there. I am also practicing away to no end to improve on my work and my style.

Artsywanderlust – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an individual artist, so there’s no company per se. However, my shop Etsy shop and Facebook Art page goes by the name Artsywanderlust. I have not started selling my originals on Etsy yet, but I will do that in the next couple of months. Most of my pieces, that I am creating are going towards Art exhibitions and competitions. I am truly proud of myself that I could do what was only a desire and start it well at a couple of years shy of being 50 years old, and with every courage at that. I do not worry about if I can do it. Of course, I can and I will. I love to travel, both me and my husband, and the fact that we have visited 22 states in the US in the last 5 years shows the lever of passion we have for travel. I have a profound fascination towards mountains and flowers so I also pick up ideas while traveling around.

My story is an unusual one but I am happy today because I am what Iam because of those experiences in life. So today, I can celebrate every little thing in my life. My husband is the wind beneath my wings, in truest of sense. Meeting him 12 years ago was nothing short of a miracle! I came to USA from India in 2013, on a dependent visa with my husband and was not able to work, let alone being an artist until recently, that I got my work permit in Jan 2019and I am grateful the opportunity this country has given me so far and I know if I work hard enough, I will take my art far enough. I lost my father when I was in High School, and ever since then, I had to navigate through life’s very arduous challenges for over two decades. During this time of severity, when I had a formidable task of just surviving with dignity, my art was all forgotten. Though I always wanted to paint but I kept losing touch and more importantly I started losing my confidence and I felt my brushes would not be in my control, my colors would not look beautiful enough on canvas. But as fate and my undying desire for creating art would have had it, fast forward 2017, one fine day I just walked up to ‘Michael’s’, and bought a bunch of art supplies and that day, it was after 23 years that I picked up my paintbrush once again and I haven’t stopped even for a day ever since.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I know I will make many fond memories as an artist but for now, in the last 5 months, I have two achievements that I fondly look back at- My very first Art show in May 2019 andbut being selected in Two Juried Show by Trinity arts guild and Envision Art show.
