Meet Roberto and Julie Conti of Green Hitechs in West Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto and Julie Conti.

Roberto and Julie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our passion is to help others in need. Being from Nicaragua, I have seen firsthand the living conditions that many are subject to. In addition to my travels around the world, the need for clean water is a basic human right, that not all of us can afford…until now. My wife and I own several companies, however, when the opportunity presented itself to enter it the water purification industry, we didn’t even have to think about it. Our water purification unit requires only gravity, no electricity…and everyone has free access to gravity!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Providing water purification in remote locations in developing countries does presents its challenges. First, financially it was difficult to overcome the growth of the company, travel, office, employees, etc… Second is educating the buyer to the capacity of our purification system, they had a hard time believing that our system purifies the water to 99.999%. We underwent strict testing in each country’s own laboratories to earn certification with the ability to sell. Third, engaging relationships with local non-profits, government officials and leaders as well as building trust in the villages. The “barrier to entry” is an obstacle in and of itself, even the finest negotiator will have a hard time to overcome. Lastly, is mere logistics, a flight turns to a drive to the location and onward to the village may require a 4-wheel drive vehicle or simply, hiking it on foot.

Green Hitechs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The mission is simple.

To get clean water to every single person who needs it. People living in impoverished areas die every day from drinking dirty water. While having access to clean water is a luxury that many of us take for granted, there are millions living in nations with no filtration systems in place. Kids drink from the same streams where animals bathe. In addition, there is no clean water available for surgery if someone is injured, putting the wounded at risk of deathly infections. The goal is to take existing solutions in the form of portable water filters into countries that need them.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Providing a solution to a village to access water from a well that has been contaminated for ten years. We were able to provide a water purification system to the village and they were able to filter water from their contaminated well, that is located inside their village. This eliminated the need for the women and children to walk several miles every morning and every night to get water from the nearby river and holes in the road.
