Art & Life with Mitchell Ogiamien

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitchell Ogiamien.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Typically, my story of how I got into photography is more of interest. I get caught up anywhere I see a camera and somehow I end up having access to use the camera at some point.

Along the line, while I was working in a telecoms company, I had lots of idle time due to the project closure and figured I could use it to do something. I told my wife about it and she said what about photography, I knocked it off at that instance thinking I never saw myself taking it that far to the point of loving it and eventually making a living out of it.

I beat myself about it, gave it much consideration and decided to order my first DSLR camera Nikon D7200 which I had no idea of how to operate. My wife introduced me to a photographer to mentor me, soon I started second shooting with him to learn on the job. He introduced me into Wedding, Portrait and Event photography. Besides what I learned from my mentor, I discovered my hunger and desire for knowledge became strong, then I started watching tutorial videos, getting photography resources and learning from the work of other photographers.

I saw a lot of work that almost got me confused on my niche until I decided to stick with Wedding, Portrait and Event Photography. I love the sound of celebration and how it gladdens my heart to see people in party mood.

Today and always, I keep pushing my craft to be more artistic and creative with every opportunity given.

Please tell us about your art. What do you do / make / create? How? Why? What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it? What should we know about your artwork?

Sharing it, in essence, makes them receive it more. There should be a reason to remain united in a true relationship

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
