Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Hutts.
Aaron, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started making art in middle school, around the same time, my fibromyalgia really started to take effect. Over the last 6 or so years, my main outlet for everything was art of any form. I got even more serious about it in high school. All day, every day, I was sketching and painting, filling up sketchbook after sketchbook. Three years ago, I started doing in-person art events and sales after my old band played a local bar, and I was invited back along with my paintings. Ever since then, I’ve gradually increased my art into several art events per month.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
At its core, I make vent art. Struggling with fibromyalgia and PTSD for most of my life has influenced what I do more than anything. I throw all of my frustration and all of my fear into my art and make the best of it. I never limit myself to just one medium. I’ve made paintings, drawings, crocheted pieces, screen-printed t-shirts, and even bars of soap in order to push myself to work hard and never stagnate. My hope for when people see my art is that they understand that no one is alone in their struggles. The art I make is an intensely vulnerable thing that I hope reminds people that the best aspect of humanity is our empathy in contrast to the chaos that the world is.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success as an artist lies purely in personal growth, in my opinion. It’s not contingent on how much money one makes or how many galleries your work is in. Success is entirely dependent on doing what you love, relentlessly, and refusing to let other people try to tear down what makes you happy.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I do local art events several times a month all around town. My most common events are the Lola’s Rock n Roll Rummage Sale at Lola’s Trailer Park, and Fire Beats at Shipping and Receiving Bar. Essentially every piece I’ve made in the last five years has been uploaded to my Instagram (@solstice.snakes), and I also have several pieces on my Etsy shop, AaronTaylorArt.
