Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Thomas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I was little, I’ve always been into dance and art. I loved all different styles of dance (Ballet Jazz, Hip Hop & many more) and different kind of art (Illustrations, graphic designs & photography). Those were the two main things I found that came naturally to me. I wasn’t sure how they were going to play a role in my life until later down the line. I then got a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing with a Minor in Visual Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Currently, I am working as a marketing professional and I am now in transition to start my creative business in photography and graphic designs while working my full-time job. It has been a long time coming but I am excited to see where this new opportunity will take me.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Outside of being hard of hearing since birth and have a slight speech impairment, I’ve dealt with other challenges as well.
It wasn’t until after I’ve graduated from college and was three years into my marketing career that I fell into a slight depression and a negative headspace. I was working two jobs, gained weight, faced different health issues, stopped dancing as a hobby, stopped doing art related things and ended up losing touch with myself. Although I was really good at my job as a Marketing Specialist, at the time, I just wasn’t happy with myself.
I then made an effort to change my mindset, pray more, journal more, overcome fear, figure out what is it that I want to do in life that gives me purpose and makes me happy. I really made the effort to capitalize on self-love because outside of what we do in life, we have to take care of ourselves, our temples, minds, hearts & souls. This was where I realized that I needed to get back into dancing for fun, somehow incorporate art back into my life and a few other things. This helped put my life into perspective.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
Outside of my full-time job, I am a photographer and graphic designer. I am currently in the beginning stages as I just started my business this year, 2019. My goal is to be a one-stop shop for multiple services. And to enhance the beauty of story/brand with quality photos, content, and designs.
Photography Services: Portraits, Lifestyle, Commercial & Events.
Graphic Design Services: Logos, Social Media Content, Business Cards, Media Kit, Flyers, Stationary, and other Marketing Collaterals.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, Dallas has a lot to offer as there are many beautiful locations to take pictures. There are a lot of like-minded creatives and networking opportunities as well in the area. A great place to start and grow your creative business.
