Meet Claire Haidar of Pattyrn in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Haidar.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in South Africa. I moved to Europe after completing my graduate degree in South Africa. I spent ten years in Ireland, where I was involved in building and growing three startups. I started Wndyr at the end of 2015 with my co-founder Tracey. The US very quickly became our largest market, and I moved here in late 2016. We have spent the last two years prototyping and building our product called Pattyrn, which will be publically released in late 2019.

If I ask myself the question of how I got here today then I would say that starting to work at the age of 12 in an accounting firm, my father’s death and having to take over his business and my time in Europe building business’s have all been pivotal touch points which have led to where I am today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all… but bumpy roads are the adventurous ones. A tragic death, a health scare, and a mastectomy, a failed relationship, a car accident, multiple near-closures of the business as we fought to grow and get to market.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pattyrn – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a technology company with a beautiful vision of understanding the way humans work and enabling them to improve that. We build and deploy products that help companies and their teams achieve this. We are known for our crazy “no email” experiment, for deep human behavior insights, for our productivity thought leadership, for our approach to building startups in a very unique way and for our humanness. We also run the company entirely virtually, which means it is full of diversity. We have a team from 12 different countries around the world, and collectively we speak nine languages.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am happily married with two children, and as a family, we are building a family foundation to impact the world. We want to work on peace initiatives in high conflict areas around the world.
