Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Fobbs.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I never realized I had a true interest in photography. I’d always take pictures of random things or myself lol but never anything serious. It wasn’t until I bought an actual DSLR for my YouTube channel that I realized I was kinda good. But even then I didn’t tap in on it, it was actually videography and video editing that I fell in love with. When I decided to go back to college, I sold my camera for financial reasons and I didn’t have a good laptop to continue my videography so I fell off. Fast forward to now, I shoot film photography and film only and I love it! This is the first time I’ve taken my photography seriously and it’s been paying off… literally.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been the most raggedy road even if I must say, lol. I struggled financially, not having enough money for equipment. I struggled and sometimes still do struggle with feeling like my work isn’t good enough but that’s just me being hard on myself. It’s definitely a marathon, to say the least. I’m still learning, still growing, and still struggling, lol.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I’m a self-taught film photographer. I like to shoot portrait and landscape photography mainly or anything that catches my eye. I’m most proud of having my work in an upcoming photo gallery. That’s really big to me because growing up I never won any awards or had anything to celebrate besides graduating high school so this is a pretty cool feeling/experience. I think what sets me apart is for one I’m a female, I’m black, and I shoot film. I haven’t come across others in the DFW that fit into my particular category.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It hasn’t happened yet, but I recently got selected to be in a photo gallery for Emerald Studios. The gallery is called 25% and it highlights some of the best photographers in Dallas that identify as a minority. It feels good to be recognized for something that has meaning.
