Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Regan.
Jenna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Interestingly enough, I never planned to be a photographer. I remember being inspired by photography but never thinking I’d be any good at it.
I grew up in Pennsylvania obsessed with all things related to animals from the start. My focus was riding and training horses, with the career goal of training world caliber show horses. At twelve years old, I had decided I was living in Texas someday. In elementary and high school, I volunteered at shelters, organized charity events, rescued and rehomed pets, and loved on my share of dogs, cats, and horses.
One summer internship my Freshman year of college, finally brought me to North Texas and I just fell in in love with the people, the weather, and the vibe here. So I stayed! I worked as an assistant for top horse trainers in the industry and eventually decided to go back to college, knowing I’d still continue to be involved in the horse and pet industries.
I transferred to Texas A&M and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and journalism. During my senior year I took one photography class, realized I truly had an eye and a passion for it and well, I was hooked!
After graduation, I jumped right into my photography business initially photographing a little bit of everything and then focusing on dogs, horses, and people. All along the way I’ve submersed myself in education and development and am committed to it as an art and business. Five years later, here I am with a pasture full of horses, dogs that have my heart and a camera in my hand.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think being a business owner is always an adventure, so naturally there have been ups and downs along the way. Probably the wildest portion of the journey began in 2015 when my home (and home office) was hit by a tornado. It’s a very long story there, but having to rebuild and replace everything, which took nearly two years, was a challenge that tested my strength, patience, and commitment to my business and clients. I showed myself that I could adapt to anything that comes my way and to be honest, as a pet photographer, that’s a handy skill to have!
Jenna Regan Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a full time professional pet photographer who specializes in capturing the best of both people and pets. My business is focused on creating custom photographic experiences that capture love, bonds, and personalities.
Though I photograph all types of two and four legged family members, including horses, the majority of my clientele are dogs and their people.
There are many details and variable that come together to create these memorable images for my clients. And I believe I have my own unique take on it. I combine extensive planning, an artistic eye for detail, strategic posing and lighting, and picture perfect locations, with the ability to work with dogs of all personalities, breeds, and levels of training to create one-of-a-kind artwork.
I’m constantly striving to truly understand my clients, their pets, and everyone’s needs before the camera comes out. I work with my clients to forge a connection that helps to truly tell their story and capture what makes each pet unique.
The hallmark of my photography is distinctive imagery that begs to be shown off as eye-catching artwork. I pride myself in the connections I make, turning clients into friends. I hope with each image you’ll not only see a dog in all his glory, but also see his heart.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
First I’m proud to say that pet photography is my career, passion, and full-time business for the past 5 years. Though there are many photographers that will photograph pets out there, there aren’t many full-time pet photographers in the Dallas-Fort Worth areas. And even fewer that truly can photograph pets with people.
Naturally having technical, animal behavioral knowledge, and artistic skills is truly essential to being a pet photographer, but beyond that I truly think the most important element of my business and success is the relationships I’ve built.
I have all these amazing relationships from clients, to fellow business owners I work with, to rescue organizations I donate my time to.
I’m proud of the clients I stay in touch with, the part of their lives they have shared with me, and the difference I have made. Even better yet that I can say I have clients who come back to me year after year.
My clients have told me I have a true heart for this and that they can feel and see that in every step of working with me. That kind of feedback touches my heart and makes me proud. I’m committed to every client I work with getting my best and walking away feeling that way.
My photography impact has spanned well beyond me or a monetary business transaction. I think that is truly the essence of Jenna Regan Photography and what I value most– the relationships and true connections in images, as well as in real life.
