Today we’d like to introduce you to Cardia and Xavier McNeal.
Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Uplifting Fathers was started by myself and my husband Xavier McNeal to provide a support system for single fathers. After researching and noticing the minimum amount of support available to fathers compared to mothers, we quickly redirected the focus to all fathers. We want to show the fathers in our community that they have help and support in raising their children. When my husband and I started dating, he was a single father with full custody of his daughter. Although he had a tremendous amount of help and support from his family, there were tons of things that he needed to learn. I encouraged him to learn how to more sensitive and attentive to his daughter’s needs. We also knew several other single fathers that we would help and swap parenting stories and advice with. This made my husband, and I wonder how many dads are in our community that needs help. So, we decided to provide help by starting Uplifting Fathers Nonprofit Organization. We are brand new and are seeking all types of donations and support. We will be participating in North Texas Giving Day for the very first time this September.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been easy, and we just began the journey. Right now, we are focused on getting the word out about the organization and the donations needed.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
There are so many organizations that focus on women and single mothers. This leads me to believe that they have overlooked the fathers and single fathers in the community. So, we are here to bring these warriors to the spotlight.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the nice girl that got along with everyone. So was Xavier we are just genuinely people persons. Either one of use can start a conversation with anyone. We grew up in a rough neighborhood in Oak Cliff, that same neighborhood made us the giving people we are today.
