Meet Trailblazer Callie Reaves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Reaves.

Callie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, before receiving a full scholarship to the University of Oklahoma for being a National Merit Scholar. I graduated OU in three years, and then after deliberating an MBA, I settled into a program with State Farm to eventually open my own agency.

A family friend was a State Farm agent and seemed to genuinely enjoy her career and the freedom it allowed her. I was not at all 100% sure this was the career path for me, but anything that provided a paycheck sounded like a good idea the moment.

After spending time in both State Farm and Allstate agencies, a veteran State Farm agent told me if he could do it all over again, he would choose Goosehead. I reached out to a Goosehead Rep, and within a month had signed a contract to open my own agency. I opened in November of 2018 and have been growing my book of business ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was the farthest thing from a smooth road. I was not used to failure, and it stunned me that I was capable of falling so hard so fast in the first three months. The job is a straight commission, and I had started with very little capital. For the first time, I questioned my potential and the confidence I had carried so easily before.

But I never understood my potential until I began to question it. And the stumble propelled me forward. The bumpy road was well worth where I am now.

I franchised with Goosehead Insurance, the largest independent personal lines brokerage in Texas. We cut all the nonsense out of insurance agencies to stick to typical personal lines, home, and auto. I am most proud of our innovation. While larger captive agencies are in the technological dark ages and new insure-tech companies are eliminating human interaction, Goosehead is combining the best of both technology and relationship-based business to overcome competition and meet needs insureds actually have.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
More than anyone, the other woman of Goosehead. Katie Morales and Laura Garza (other new agents) have built me up and challenged me unlike any others before. They are unapologetic for their success and won’t stop at being on top, they want to find new heights.
