Today we’d like to introduce you to Leroyce Jackson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Leroyce. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was blessed to grow up in a family that made music, so music was always around me. Ever since I was born, my dad always was making music, whether that be with his band or in his studio, music was always being played. Surprisingly, I never even thought about making music until I reached high school. I guess it was because it was always there, I didn’t think too much into it. I always had the love for it from the beginning though. My family was huge on R&B and Soul. I never really heard any hip hop, unless it was like the radio or the stuff I would hear my older brother play. He was definitely into the hip hop side. But soul music just really resonated the most with me, I feel. It was just the melodies and how just the rhythm and vibe could make you feel so good. Fast forward once I was in middle school and high school, I started playing drums for my church. Around that time is when I really found out that I could dig deep into music, and that there was more music than what was on the radio. That’s where my love for hip hop came. So, I started digging. The one group I really loved listening to was Outkast. Once we moved to Texas, my dad kind of eased up on the music thing, but he always had everything set up in the house. Now, that I think about it, I really was blessed to have a studio in my crib. That’s around the time I started to get curious about recording. I would just gradually go in there more and more. I started to look up different ways to record music, and that’s when I came across fruity loops. For the longest time, I had the demo version. Once I started using it, I fell in love with it, and never put it down ever since. Pretty much I learned everything on my own from, mixing, to producing and writing, to even playing the piano somewhat. It was all trial and error to figure it all out. I just was blessed to have all of it at my fingertips shoutout to my dad.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been easy. One of the biggest struggles I have to deal with in my life is being away from my family. Once I graduated high school, my whole family, including me for a little bit, moved back to the east coast. I always wanted to come back to Texas though. By the time I left, I had already had my Elevæted team. We all met in high school and had similar aspirations. Plus, we already had started making music together. So personally, I felt like would’ve had to start over what I already had going, and I knew that my whole team was something special that I didn’t want to lose. So, after a few months of living back in Virginia, I had chosen to move back to Texas. Ever since 2015, I’ve lived here and dealt with not being able to really see my family at all. I have a little brother that’s growing up so fast, so I’m trying to get this music to where I need it to be so it wouldn’t be and the financial problem being able to have my family around me and bring us all back together.
Please tell us about Elevæted.
I would say that I pretty much do it all. I produce, mix, write, and rap. My first project “The sunny Nights Project” is what really put me on as a rapper. I actually have two popular songs from my album that I am very proud of. “THERAPY” has now over 3 million views on YouTube, and “Sunny Nights” has almost 2 millions streams on Spotify. I mixed and wrote every song on there. I also produced a couple of tracks. It’s a true blessing to really not have to find people who can do each thing. I’m very proud of my team as a whole. I feel like everyone can hold their own in whatever field they’re in, and on top of that compete with the best of the best. So, having all these super dope and amazing individuals under one team makes us unstoppable.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve definitely have had my family around me during this whole process. They bring me so much inspiration and motivation, it’s unreal. Every time I get to go back to visit, it’s like a breath of fresh air. It allows me to clear my mind when I’m around them.
