Today we’d like to introduce you to Judith Griffin.
Judith, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Illness brings me to my gardens where I find flowers and herbs to compliment self healing. Forty-four years ago, I had twins with immune deficiencies who were not expected to live. Their pediatrician told me to do what I could to help. I knew how to cook and grow. From my gardens, I made creams, essences and sprays, which soon became known as Petite Fleur Essences. My despair turned to hope as the twins began to improve in 5 weeks.
When my youngest son, Jason, was 2, he lost half his hearing due to nerve damage, I was told his hearing would not return. I went back into the gardens and made a topical blend to apply on the outside of his ears. Jason’s hearing returned in 3 weeks, no nerve damage noted.
As the children matured into healthy adults, I traveled and studied plants from many cultures. The herbalists also use many topical applications because the skin is the largest immune organ.
I used all my knowledge to heal my small intestine from Crohn’s disease. I did not use medications due to multiple allergies and reactions. It took some years, but the small intestine healed and regenerated, according to the x-ray. The doctor told me to continue using my “plant potions” and I do to this day.
During the 80’s, I developed a small international business by word of mouth to interested doctors. I created pain lotions, essences for emotional support, skincare and creams for health and beauty. I received a state license to purchase glassware to distill essences and floral products.
I shared my knowledge of growing and using healing plants in adult courses at U.T.A., T.C.U and interested groups.
In 1997, I published Mother Nature’s Herbal (Hierbas de la Madre Naturaleza), still available today. I researched ancient cultural healing and healers form many cultures. I shared hundreds of culinary, topical and internal recipes for health and beauty. I included organic gardening, harvesting and stories from each culture.
Flowers that Heal (2002- present) is an entertaining fairy tale teaching aromatherapy, nutrition and herbs for people and pets.
The Healing Flowers is a self-published book describing each Petite Fleur Essence characteristics and how they benefit the personality and physical health. This is a small guide book for practitioners, especially used widely overseas.
After completing European speaking engagements, Baylor Hospital in Dallas contacted me about creating blends for an aromatherapy program. The first blends helped bone marrow and stem cell patients to reduce nausea, pain, edema, anxiety and grief. They also helped increase sleep and longevity.
Soon, my blends were used for heart, lung and solid organ transplants, sickle cell, chemical dependency, cancer and blood disorders, lymphedema, high risk maternity, pulmonary rehab, general medicine, surgeries, hospice and palliative care. Sometimes I add blends for the nurses and patient loved ones to reduce stress. I use small amounts of my essential oils in a base of the Petite Fleur Essences. Large amounts of essential oils, especially with chemical synthetics additives, can damage the hippo-campus of the brain and cause toxicity in the liver and kidney. I do not use hexane to separate essential oils from hydro-late condensation. I use a glass separator. Baylor wants purity. I have continued with Baylor for 20 years.
A documentary, The Healing Power of Flowers, was released in 1999 about my work with Baylor, cancer patients, people and pets. It aired on Discovery Channel for a few years. I expanded the products to include children’s blends, pet products and new blends. During this time, I run the runner’s up in the Fort Worth mayor’s award for local business for creativity in developing a business. With 3 kids as a single parent, I had reason to be creative in my career.
With assistance of webmasters, I expanded my website, begun in 1999, to include research and hundreds of products, blogs and classes My youngest son, Jason made beautiful labels for my products.
Both of my sons, Vincent and Jason, landscaped and worked in the gardens for 30 years. They installed drip and xeriscaped a natural habitat for birds, bees, butterflies and native plants. My life partner, Mark, a new member of the family created paths, built buildings and designed arbors for my antique roses. He also relocates possums, skunk and armadillos. Next year, he has a plan to keep squirrels out of the peach tree.
We are all self employed. I privately consult as a nutritionist and create personal aroma blends for individuals. We are each born with a unique scent originating in the womb. I create aromas to help physical, mental, emotional symptoms in a unique blend, I do this also with the mineral pattern we inherit at birth to achieve quality life.
Has it been a smooth road?
Struggles include being a single parent and self employed. I often worked from my home to be available for my children after school and during the summer. I financed my business. I made a decision to stay out of debt and expand as money became available. I work with small business distributors for my products in the UK, E.U./Italy. and Tai Wan and other areas of Asia. Learning customs, tariff codes, F.A.A. and U.N. rules is stressful for me.
