Conversations with the Inspiring Mariam Rehan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Rehan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mariam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I discovered my passion for makeup artistry at an early age. With limited support to enroll in a dedicated program at a young age, I figured out how to apply cosmetics on myself from viewing YouTube videos and honed my art by rehearsing cosmetic strategies on my loved ones. Not long after graduating college, however, I found an opportunity to directly enter this world by participating in a local make-up competition; fortunately, the years of cajoling my family to let me use their faces as my canvas propelled me to victory and provided a chance to enroll in an esthetician school in Canada. With what felt the world being my oyster, I learned everything I could from hair styling, facials to acrylics and makeup. The next few years were of unbridled, free-spirited exploration. I traveled throughout North America with my family from one metropolitan to the next, East to West coast, New York to Los Angeles learning technique from top-notch professionals (Mac, Urban Decay, Makeup for Ever etc.,) and understanding style from the mosaic of cultures that is this continent. Having blended different backgrounds and concepts to create my own style and becoming a certified makeup artist, I decided to open up my own business where I would create a legacy for makeup that transcends geographies and cultures and dares to venture into the unknown; this is where Everview was born. Since then, I have been pouring out my talent on my customers for two years and continue to do so. I’m going into my third year and can’t wait for what Everview has to offer and what more is yet to come!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before starting my career, the lack of having a structured education perhaps provided the biggest challenge; in hindsight, I like to think of it as a blessing. I was already pursuing a Bachelor in Arts when in college but not receiving any form of formal instruction always dared me to learn on my own – that learning, was perhaps the catalyst to my career as it wasn’t being pursued for a degree or a job, but rather for the heart. And so, those years of watching online videos and reading magazines, made me my own teacher, set free to pursue my own syllabus. The next main hurdle was starting up my own business. To summarize, being an artist, I knew my capability and the service that I was willing to provide but a business encompasses far more. The legalities, financials, operational efficiencies, marketing agenda – even the basic question, would anyone even come to appreciate my art, or was this just a facade in my own head? I was intimidated, to say the least.  On top of that, I had gotten married and had kids at an early age which came with its own struggles. The initial months were challenging but no dream is ever realized by fearing the outcome; I took the plunge and believed. Although I still remain a long way from my ultimate dream, my family (my husband, Rehan and kids Muhammad, Mahnoor & Aisha) have been so supportive and I can’t thank them enough. As such, my advice for women who are starting their journey is two-fold: believe in yourself and be prepared to push through the lows to get to the highs. 

What should we know about Everview Beauty? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a certified makeup artist specializing in all type of makeups for any occasion such as Bridal, Party, Prom, Hollywood Glam and more where every woman can indulge in looking great and feeling even greater. As a brand, what I am most proud of is my commitment to beauty, in its purest form. All women represent various ideas of beauty and creating looks that make them feel empowered to take on the world remains my motto. At Everview, I am known to provide a service that is unique to each individual and strays away from the clichés of smoky eyes. I’d like to think that my title of a makeup consultant rather than a makeup artist allows me to recommend a service that brings out anyone’s hidden potential that reforms their ideals and introduces them to someone they’ve never met. Simply put, Everview Beauty can bring out the natural beauty in anyone – and that’s exactly what we intend to do.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
As soon as I took my first steps, I naturally glided towards anything bright, or sparkly. This infatuation for colors turned into a bubbling passion for the arts and after dabbling in varying forms of artistic impressions, I set my mind to the art of makeup. Without a doubt, my parents are the most in charge of setting me up for progress. They have consistently had a steady confidence in me and pushed me to work hard and never give up. I’m extraordinarily fortunate to have a family that is so strong and supportive.
