Meet Miesha Keaton of Mink’s Glamour Studio in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miesha Keaton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I became interested in hair as a child when I realized my mom struggled to keep my hair up. Lol, like a lot of moms, she just didn’t know-how. When I was 12, I began experimenting with her hair, close family members and even my own. Surprisingly, I was pretty good at it! Well good for a 12-year-old. Throughout my teen years, I would do friends hair from school.. that turned into gaining “clients” I didn’t even know well from word of mouth. My mother was very supportive in allowing me to have two or three clients over to our house at once while I did their hair. My fee was $5! For any and everything! When I became a senior in high school I entered the cosmetology program.

After I graduated, I went on to become a student at Aladdin Beauty College. I attained my professional cosmetology license at the age of 19 years old! The very first salon I worked in was called Exodus Hair Salon in Fort Worth. I was a nervous wreck! My first client as a professional was my mom! She was a good sport! I worked as a cosmetologist for years, and I became better and better at my craft. I’ve been privileged to service the everyday woman as well as very high profile clients, some celebrity.

I absolutely love hair and being able to change someone’s day by putting a smile on their face! There is a saying, “when you look good, you feel good!” And that saying holds true! It’s a blessing to be able to change the way someone views themselves with something as simple as a hairstyle! I’ve been a hairstylist for over 20 years and I still go to classes, attend seminars, etc. I recently opened my own mini salon (salon suite), here in Fort Worth. I love what I do! It’s not only a passion of mine, but it’s also a calling.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a hairstylist MOST DEFINITELY has its challenges. There are times that what you envision a haircut/hairstyle to look like, it’s actually totally different! Some clients are hard to please. Some clients have unrealistic expectations from their hair. Some clients have nasty attitudes. Some expect MIRACLES! And there are times when you as the stylist just can’t do the service! There have been times that I’ve tried to mimic what I’ve seen on TV or online but was not able to physically execute it. However, even through all of this, I still wouldn’t trade what I do for the world!

Tell us more about your work. What should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The name of my salon is Mink’s Glamour Studio. The word “Mink’s” is my full name (Mi-esha N-icole K-eaton) abbreviated.

I offer several services such as cuts, extensions, colors, & makeup. If I had to pick a specific area that I specialize in, it would be haircuts and bonded bob haircuts. I am a full-service salon as well. I can do your hair, makeup, sell you an amazing jewelry piece, handbag and/or help with fashion if needed. I do well with keeping an upbeat and positive attitude; not because I never have bad days but because loving what I do creates an incredible atmosphere.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is pretty simple but powerful! I get paid for doing something I love! That’s success. I know countless people who go to a job, daily, doing something that they hate! I love the beauty industry and if I could I would do it for free. To me, that’s success. I’m successful not because of how much money I make, but because I actually enjoy going to my salon every day making people happy!
