Meet Daren Martin of Global Company Culture Association in Harwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daren Martin.

Daren, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been working in the company culture space for many years including advising companies on it, writing books about it – including the bestselling A Company of Owners, and providing Keynotes at conferences.

Company Culture is the number one conversation going on in businesses around the world. With a 15% global employee engagement rate we clearly have a problem with the workplace. Only 16% of executives say their Company Culture is where it needs to be.

One early morning sitting in my reading and thinking chair I had an epiphany. As big as the conversation is, there was not a gathering place for people passionate about company culture. A quick internet search revealed that I was right. If we are truly going to improve the way we work we need a huge platform, a command central of sorts.

Many companies provide resources, software, strategies and research to further the cause of improving workplace culture. There is a multitude of speakers and authors addressing the needed changes. Many CEO’s, CHRO’s, Executives and business leaders are desperately searching for answers to create better people experience, performance, and to impact profits. For the most part, all of these groups are operating independently.

From that realization, the Global Company Culture Association was born. We wanted to build a gathering place for all of the great ideas, research, strategies and more on how we can improve workplace culture. The Global Company Culture Association is a place for collaboration and action.

The Global Company Culture Association uses multiple outlets including Company Culture Magazine, The Epic Culture Conference, Real Talk – Interviews with top leaders, Webinars, and more to highlight all of the work being done around the Globe to make the world of work a better place. Our first act of official business was to register September as Global Company Culture Month and September 18th as Global Company Culture Day with the National Registry to put even more highlights on the subject.

As the CEO and Founder of The Global Company Culture Association, I feel like it is a true culmination of my life’s work. We have a big vision of making every place of work the best place to work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Absolutely not. The massive undertaking we embarked on to create a huge organization from scratch has so many pivot points, assets to be built, relationships to build, conversations to be had, and so much more.

The design and technical tasks alone including look and feel, website, social media strategy and more have been a bit overwhelming at times. Fortunately, we found a couple of great partners including Johnnie Studios and Dallas based firm Social Revolt to help with the heavy lifting.

Anytime you build something new it requires a lot of thought and planning to present it in a way that people will even understand what it is. In addition, all of the original funding to get the wheels in motion was from us. We are excited to finally be at a place where we can seriously consider the right vendor/sponsor partners of companies who want to be in front of the audience we are gathering.

The team has worked many hours to put The Global Company Culture Association in place. The emotions have shifted from “What were we thinking to take on such a monumental task” to elation knowing “We are building something that is going to truly change the world and make the world better for billions of people.”

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Global Company Culture Association story. Tell us more about the business.
The Global Company Culture Association is the only entity of its kind. The beauty of what we do is we are a massive platform for every individual, leader, software solution, strategic solution, educational outlet, researcher and more focused on Company Culture.

85% of people around the globe hate their job. We intend to rally and collaborate with the people and companies who can change that truly making our world a better place.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Personally, I don’t really believe in luck. It has been said, “Luck favors the prepared” and I believe that. I live by the great quote from Rumi who said, “Live as if the universe is conspiring in your favor.” I think what looks like luck is actually a combination of the following few principles. Who you choose to hang out with and the rooms you are in the matter. You don’t get if you don’t ask, be bold and precise about what you want. Leverage the network you build, they want to help. Ask for input and help frequently and be open to the response.
